Hourly, overnight, live-in or around the clock

In Connecticut, hourly, overnight and 24-hour care are available in Fairfield and New Haven counties, and live-in care is available in every county. So in every Fairfield County town, care can start as a few hours a week and grow into overnights, a live-in caregiver or care around the clock, with the same agency and the same Care Manager.

A registered nurse visits your parent's home first and writes the care plan with your family. Most families start with one kind of help and add another as things change: company and meals, then help with bathing and dressing, then someone there at night.

Coming home from a Fairfield County hospital

Most families first call us around a hospital stay. Each hospital runs its own discharge planning, and the earlier you tell the team you want care at home arranged, the smoother the first day back is.

  • Greenwich Hospital

    A 206-bed regional hospital serving Fairfield County and Westchester County. Its going-home page says planning for a safe discharge begins the day a patient is admitted, with nurse case managers working with the patient and caregiver throughout the stay.

  • Stamford Hospital

    The flagship of Stamford Health, licensed for 305 beds, with a Level II Trauma Center and dedicated services for seniors through its Geriatric Emergency Medicine Initiative. Its care managers and social workers help with discharge planning, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Northwell Norwalk Hospital

    A 366-bed hospital and Level II trauma center. Its case managers coordinate with the care team when it's time to go home, including home health services, equipment, rehabilitation and skilled nursing.

  • Bridgeport's hospitals

    St. Vincent's Medical Center runs the Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging, a resource and assessment center for seniors and their caregivers. Bridgeport Hospital lists geriatric assessment and a geriatric home visit program.

Regional help

The Southwestern CT Agency on Aging

The Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging and Independent Living (SWCAA), in Bridgeport, is the regional agency for older adults in this part of the county. Its towns are Bridgeport, Darien, Easton, Fairfield, Greenwich, Monroe, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford, Trumbull, Wilton, Westport and Weston. It gives information and referral help on aging questions and administers the CT Home Care Program, which offers Connecticut residents an alternative to nursing home placement.

Towns also name a Municipal Agent for Aging; SWCAA's site lists New Canaan's, for example. Municipal Agents help older adults and caregivers connect with local services, benefits and community resources, so start there for town programs and with SWCAA for state programs.

Adult day centers that serve more than one town

An adult day program gives your parent company, activities and a meal during the day, and gives the family caregiver time back. These are the centers we verified that serve families across the county. Home care covers the hours around the program: the morning routine, the ride, the evening and the night.

  • River House, Cos Cob

    A medical model adult day center serving Greenwich and Stamford, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a registered nurse always on site and its own door-to-door transportation within the two towns.

  • ElderHouse, Norwalk

    A certified medical and social adult day center serving Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It offers a free trial day.

  • Waveny's Navigator program, New Canaan

    An adult day program for people living with Alzheimer's or dementia, Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with full- and half-day options.

  • Mozaic Senior Life, Bridgeport and Stratford

    Certified medical model adult day services that combine nursing care with therapeutic recreation, for family caregivers throughout Fairfield County.

Senior centers

Senior centers across the county

Each of these centers sets its own age and residency rules. A companion caregiver can take your parent, stay nearby and bring them home, so a class or a lunch stays on the calendar after driving stops.

  • The Wallace Center, Greenwich

    Greenwich's municipal senior center, run by the Commission on Aging. Membership is free for Greenwich residents 55 and older, and the town says its programs are transitioning to the Cohen Eastern and Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Centers ahead of upcoming renovations.

  • Stamford Senior Center

    At the Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd. Membership is open to anyone aged 60 and older regardless of where they live, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • The Mather Center, Darien

    Darien Senior Programs for adults 55 and older, with a Care Giver Support Group and appointments with Darien Human Services social workers.

  • Lapham Community Center, New Canaan

    Programs and services for all adult residents of New Canaan, age 21 and older, in Waveny Park.

  • Westport Center for Senior Activities

    Open to everyone 60 and older from Westport and neighboring towns, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Choosing an agency

Choosing a home care agency in Fairfield County

If you are comparing home care agencies in Fairfield County, start with registration. Homemaker-companion agencies must be registered with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection before engaging in business in Connecticut, and you can verify any agency or registry at elicense.ct.gov. Endurance Home Care is registered as a Homemaker-Companion Agency, HCA.0002450.

Ask whether you are hiring an agency or a registry. The state's consumer guide says agencies place their own employees in homes, while registries match you with caregivers who may be independent contractors, and with a registry you could be responsible for employment paperwork and taxes. A registered agency also has to give you a written contract or service plan within seven days of starting, hold a $10,000 surety bond or insurance policy, and train its staff as mandated reporters.

Endurance is private pay and does not accept insurance directly. If there is a long-term care insurance policy, we help with the paperwork. For families who may qualify for state help, the Southwestern CT Agency on Aging administers the CT Home Care Program.

    We choose a caregiver for the routines and preferences that matter and introduce them before the first visit. A backup plan is written into the care plan.

    Your Care Manager keeps you posted and changes the plan with you when needs change.

Which towns in Fairfield County do you serve?

We arrange care in towns across the county, from Greenwich and Stamford on the shore to Danbury and Newtown further north. Each town has its own page, or you can call us and we'll talk about care where your parent lives.

Is Endurance Home Care registered in Connecticut?

Yes. Endurance Home Care is registered with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection as a Homemaker-Companion Agency, registration HCA.0002450. It is verified active on the state eLicense registry.

Can you arrange live-in or 24-hour care?

Yes. Tell us what a typical day and night look like, and we'll help you choose between live-in care, where a caregiver lives in and has a proper night's rest, and 24-hour care, where caregivers work awake shifts. If only the nights are hard, an awake overnight caregiver may be all you need.

How do families pay for home care?

Endurance is private pay, and the cost depends on the schedule and the help needed, so we talk it through with you rather than quote a rate card. If there's a long-term care insurance policy, we'll help with the paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.

Is hourly home care available everywhere in Fairfield County?

Can a caregiver go with my parent to a senior center?
