Which Rye

Rye Brook is a village of its own, separate from the City of Rye

Rye Brook became a village on July 7, 1982 and sits in the Town of Rye, which today is Rye Brook, Port Chester and the Rye Neck section of Mamaroneck. The City of Rye has been independent of the Town since 1942 and Rye Brook is no part of it, so the two have separate senior programs, parks departments and rides. The Town's own page describes Rye Neck two ways, as the Rye Neck portion of the Village of Mamaroneck and as the unincorporated section of the Town of Mamaroneck.

Rye Brook shares a ZIP code, 10573, with Port Chester, so a mailing address does not tell you the village. Ask which village the address is in before you register for anything. Some things are shared. One 911 ambulance service, Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS, answers in Rye Brook, Port Chester and the City of Rye. Crawford Park in Rye Brook is a Town of Rye park, and Rye Town Park and Oakland Beach on the Sound sell their own season permits.

In Rye Brook that list starts with the village Senior Center, the village Dial-A-Ride, Crawford Park and the two skilled nursing facilities near King Street and High Street.

A separate city with its own senior program for residents 60 and over, the Rye Free Reading Room and The Osborn. A Rye Brook resident uses the Rye Brook Senior Center instead.

Holds the Town of Rye office, the county's nearest meals site, SPRYE's office and The Enclave at Rye skilled nursing facility. King Street Home sits on the Rye Brook side of the same ZIP.
Purchase (ZIP 10577)
A postal community north of Rye Brook with its own ZIP. We have not confirmed which municipal senior programs apply there, so ask the program before you plan around it. The Alzheimer's Association caregiver center is on Westchester Avenue.

Coming home from the hospital

The hospital near Rye Brook, and a plan for the day you come home

Greenwich Hospital, over the Connecticut line, is about 7 minutes by car from Village Hall, and it lists Westchester County in its service area. White Plains Hospital is about 12 minutes away, and also runs an imaging center on South Ridge Street in Rye Brook. Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla is about 19 minutes, Montefiore New Rochelle about 21, and NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester in Bronxville is the other hospital families mention. United Hospital in Port Chester no longer appears on the state's hospital list, so do not plan around it. In an emergency call 911.

Greenwich Hospital's going-home page says planning for a safe discharge begins the day you are admitted and names "homemaker/companion services" among the needs its team assesses. Discharge is after breakfast, so line up the ride and a person at home that morning. White Plains Hospital asks families to arrange transportation "no later than 11 a.m." and to meet its Care Management team early in the stay, and it says "insurance does not cover taxi or ambulette service fees". The village Dial-A-Ride covers appointments and errands for residents who no longer drive. It is a poor fit for the ride home from a discharge, so plan that one yourself.

Before the date: ask the case manager what your parent can do alone and what needs a person, stock easy food, and write down the follow-up appointments with who is driving. The first night is mostly about someone being in the house, and the first week is meals, errands and the first visit. Our planner walks through it.

Senior living and care options

King Street, High Street, Atria and The Osborn: what is in and near Rye Brook

Care at home brings help to your parent's own rooms. Assisted living is an apartment in a community with staff nearby for daily help. A memory care community is a staffed neighborhood for people living with memory loss. Skilled nursing and rehabilitation is a medical setting for a short or long stay. Independent living is a home in a community with meals and amenities. Endurance's own offer in New York is companion care, and we do not provide the care that assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing provides.

King Street Home Inc (listed as King Street Rehab) at 787 King Street, on the Rye Brook side of ZIP 10573, and The Enclave at Rye Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at 1000 High Street in Port Chester are state-licensed skilled nursing facilities. Atria Rye Brook at 1200 King Street lists independent living only, so we verified no assisted living inside Rye Brook. The nearest assisted living and memory care is The Osborn in the City of Rye, about 13 minutes away, which also has skilled nursing and independent living on one campus.

We found no adult day program in Rye Brook. The nearest are River House in Cos Cob, Connecticut, with a nurse on site, and Club Wartburg in Mount Vernon. A day program works well with the other days covered, and a companion can handle the rides, the evenings and the weekends.

If your parent moves to a community, a companion can visit for company, outings, errands and rides, by the hour. We do not partner with any community, and each sets its own rules for outside visitors, so ask before you book.

The Senior Center, Dial-A-Ride and SPRYE, and how a companion fills the hours between

The Rye Brook Senior Center is inside the Anthony J. Posillipo Community Center at 32 Garibaldi Place. It is open to adults 55 and older, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a hot lunch every weekday. The week includes Tai Chi, Low Impact Aerobics, Strength Training, Weight Training and Chair and Floor Yoga, plus crafts, special events with music, weekly trips and overnight trips. Dues are payable each September, with a different rate for non-residents. The village's senior services page carries the daily schedule and the newsletter.

The village Dial-A-Ride is free door-to-door transportation for Rye Brook senior residents who no longer drive. It covers club functions, local medical appointments, grocery shopping and errands, and you reserve by phone with 24 hours' notice. The schedule PDF on the village site is dated 2019, so confirm days and times with the village before you plan around it. A companion can fit around it.

SPRYE serves adults 55 and older in Rye Brook, Rye, Port Chester and Harrison, with free home safety evaluations and +PLUS member rides weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For meals, the county lists the Port Chester Senior & Community Center as the nearest site. Bee-Line ParaTransit serves people who cannot use the regular bus, with reservations one to seven days ahead. The Westchester Livable Communities site for Rye Brook is at Westchester Jewish Community Services, and NY Connects is the county's free information line.

SPRYE rides run weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for +PLUS members, and ParaTransit needs a reservation at least a day ahead. That is where scheduled companion hours fit: the ride home after lunch at the Senior Center, the days the Dial-A-Ride does not line up, the Saturday with nothing planned and the night hours. A companion works alongside the village programs and does not replace them.

Outings

Places to go together: Crawford Park, the village parks and the Sound

Crawford Park at 122 North Ridge Street is more than 35 acres of gardens, lawns, woods and a walking and jogging path, with a historic mansion that hosts community classes. It belongs to the Town of Rye. Behind it, Rye Hills Park has a walking trail and a belvedere overlooking Long Island Sound. Pine Ridge Park hosts most of the village's seasonal events, and Garibaldi Park sits beside the Senior Center, so it is an easy stop before or after a day there.

Rye Town Park and Oakland Beach are about 14 minutes away. The beach is closed for the 2026 season and reopens in 2027. Playland is closed for the season; the 2026 season closed September 13 and 2027 dates are not yet published. The Jay Estate grounds in Rye are open dawn to dusk, with the mansion open only for special programs and the gardens closing after November 1.

Choosing an agency

How to choose a home care agency in Rye Brook

Start with what kind of help your parent needs. In New York, an agency that provides nursing or aide services needs a license from the state Department of Health. The state's Business Express portal says an agency that provides solely companionship with light housekeeping does not need that license. So the first question to any agency is which of those it offers, and the Department of Health's Health Profiles site lets you search licensed home care services agencies.

Then ask how the agency works: who visits first and who writes the plan, how the caregiver is chosen and whether you meet them before the first visit, who you call when something changes, how caregivers are screened, what happens if a caregiver cannot come, and how families are billed. Ask for the schedule and the rate in writing.

Cost and paying

What sets the cost of companion care in Rye Brook, and how families pay

The cost depends on the schedule (a few hours a week, overnight, live-in or around the clock), how many days, and the kind of help. Endurance publishes no prices; we explain the cost in the first conversation, once we know what your family needs.

For a reference point only, the CareScout 2025 Cost of Care Survey puts the New York state median for an in-home caregiver at $35 an hour. CareScout notes that any one provider's price can differ from the median, so it tells you roughly where the market is and nothing about any agency's rate.

Endurance is private pay, so families pay from savings, income or other resources. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork, and the insurer decides what it reimburses. Medicare does not pay for most long-term custodial care. The village Dial-A-Ride is free for those who qualify, and Westchester County's EISEP arranges in-home help for adults 60 and older on a sliding fee based on income. Veterans may ask about VA benefits.

Is King Street Rehab in Rye Brook?

It is at 787 King Street, on the Rye Brook side of the Port Chester ZIP, about 2 minutes from Village Hall. The state lists it as King Street Home Inc, a skilled nursing facility. We did not find an official website for it, so confirm services and space by phone.

Does Atria Rye Brook offer assisted living?

Atria's own page for the community at 1200 King Street lists independent living only, with a private apartment, chef-prepared meals, housekeeping and scheduled local transportation. Some older directories list it with assisted living, so ask Atria directly what help it provides.

Is assisted living or care at home the right choice?

It depends on the person. Assisted living is an apartment in a community with staff nearby, while care at home keeps your parent in familiar rooms with help arranged around the day. If the need is company, meals and rides, companion care at home may be enough. If it is more, ask the doctor.

How do I choose a home care agency in Rye Brook?

First find out whether the agency offers companionship only. If an agency also sends aides for hands-on help, that requires a New York license, so check the state's list.
