Personal Care Services, Delivered With Dignity at Home

Hands-on daily-living care · Connecticut and New Jersey only

New York service is companion care only, without bathing, dressing, toileting or transfers.

Bathing and dressing are the moments where respect is either present or it is not, so we staff them accordingly.

Endurance Home Care provides personal care services across Fairfield County, hands on support with bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility from caregivers screened through background checks, reference checks, and certification verification.

What personal care covers

Personal care is the hands on half of home care. It is the work that starts at the skin and ends at the doorway of the bathroom, and it is daily-living throughout. A caregiver supports, steadies, reminds, and accompanies. Nobody on an Endurance schedule treats, diagnoses, or administers anything. Households usually reach for it when dressing has begun taking forty minutes, or when a shower has quietly stopped happening because nobody is there to make it safe. It runs alongside the rest of what we staff, homemaking, companion care, transportation, medication reminders, and safety supervision, on one schedule and often with one caregiver.

  1. Bathing

A shower or a bath taken at the pace the person sets, with a caregiver steadying the parts that have become difficult and stepping back from the parts that have not.

  2. Dressing

Clothes chosen by the person wearing them, then the buttons, zippers, and socks that hands with arthritis have quietly stopped winning.

  3. Grooming

Hair, shaving, teeth, and nails, kept to the standard somebody held for sixty years and does not want to drop now.

  4. Toileting support

The most private help there is, given by a caregiver trained to give it without commentary and without a rushed clock.

  5. Mobility

Getting up, sitting down, and crossing a room safely, including the hallway between the bedroom and the bathroom at two in the morning.

Personal care is one line on a longer list. The rest sits with all home care services.

Dignity starts at the assessment

A registered nurse conducts every client assessment, at the kitchen table, before a caregiver is ever scheduled. That visit is where the specifics get settled: which parts of the morning the person still wants entirely to themselves, which parts they have been dreading, how the bathroom is laid out, what the stairs are like. What comes out of it is a plan the matched caregiver follows rather than improvises, and it does not sit still. The plan is revisited through a customized monthly assessment, with updates to schedule and preferences, because the version of the morning that worked in March is rarely the version that works in July.

  1. Nurse visit

A registered nurse meets the family at home and walks through daily routines, mobility, and preferences.

  2. Plan build

The routine becomes a written plan: what happens, in what order, and what the person wants left alone.

  3. Caregiver match

A screened caregiver is matched to the household and the plan, not assigned to an open slot.

  4. First shift, then monthly

Care begins, and the plan is revisited through a customized monthly assessment as needs change.

If a long term care policy is in the picture, bring it to that first conversation. We read it with you and say plainly what it looks like it will and will not cover: long term care insurance help.

Bathing and dressing are the moments where respect is either present or it is not, so we staff them accordingly.

Who is standing there

Every caregiver clears background checks, reference checks, and verification of qualifications and certifications before a first shift. That is the floor. Above it sits the part families notice later: we coordinate around the medical providers already involved, so the appointment, the pharmacy, and the household schedule stop being three separate problems held together by one exhausted adult child.

Personal care, companion care, or homemaking

The three are separated by where the hands go. Most households need more than one of them, and they combine on a single schedule, so the question is rarely which to pick and usually which to start with.

How personal care, companion care, and homemaking differ
ServiceWhere the hands goWhat it coversWhen families start here
Personal carethis pageHands on the bodyBathing, dressing, grooming, toileting support, mobilityWhen the body, not the day, has become the hard part
Companion careHands off the bodyCompany, conversation, errands, transportation, supervisionWhen the problem is isolation or a day that no longer holds together
HomemakingHands on the houseLaundry, light housekeeping, meal preparationWhen the house is getting away from someone who is otherwise steady

If what a parent needs is company and errands without hands on care, start there. If the house is the problem more than the person, start with housekeeping and meal help. When memory is what changed, the same hands on support runs inside personal care within dementia support.

Personal-care timing is confirmed after the team checks the address, schedule, support needs, and an available caregiver match. Personal care is available in Connecticut and New Jersey; New York service is companion care only.

Companion care only

New York is companion care only. We do not hold a New York State licence and do not provide hands-on personal care there, such as bathing, dressing, toileting or transfers.

Coverage is by town rather than by county line, and the honest answer for a specific address is sometimes no. Check your town or ask when you call.
