Town by town

How arranging care differs across Westchester towns

Westchester has dozens of villages, towns and cities, and each one sets its own senior programs, rides and meal sites. The care we arrange is the same in every town. What changes is the help around it: the senior center your mother could join, the ride she could book, the hospital she would come home from.

We arrange companion care for every town in the county from our Stamford office. Here is what we found for the towns with their own pages. Where we could not confirm a town program, we say so, and the county programs further down still apply.

Scarsdale
The Village runs the Scarsdale Senior Club for residents 60 and older, with classes, talks and outings on a September to August membership year. Members who live in the Village can use a one-way taxi benefit for local medical and dental appointments. Meals on Wheels of Scarsdale delivers for the county, and the Scarsdale Public Library keeps a caregiver reading section and runs book delivery for cardholders who can't get there. A companion can drive your parent to the club or ride along to an appointment.
Rye
The City of Rye runs a senior program for residents 60 and over at the Damiano Recreation Center, with advance registration for classes, trips and monthly lunches. Rye Town Park sets its senior permit at age 65 and over, and its beach reopens in 2027. SPRYE, a neighbors-helping-neighbors group for adults 55 and older, serves Rye, Rye Brook, Harrison and Port Chester. The Rye Free Reading Room is one of the county's caregiver resource libraries.
Rye Brook
The Village runs the Rye Brook Seniors center in the Anthony J. Posillipo Community Center for adults 55 and older, open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a hot lunch each weekday. The Village also runs a free door-to-door senior Dial-A-Ride for residents who no longer drive, for the senior center, local medical visits, groceries and errands, booked by phone 24 hours ahead. SPRYE holds a Wednesday chair yoga class at Crawford Park Mansion.
Armonk
North Castle runs a senior drop-in center at the Hergenhan Community Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with door-to-door transportation four days a week and a weekly grocery trip to ShopRite or Stop and Shop. The town also delivers meals on weekdays, excluding holidays, for a per-meal fee billed monthly. Because the town provides the ride to the center, a companion's hours often fall around it: breakfast before, errands after.
Bedford
We did not find a Bedford town senior program in the sources we checked, so start with the county programs below and ask the town directly what it offers. The county lists NY Connects, the Family Caregiver Support Program and Care Circles for every municipality.
Bronxville
Bronxville is home to NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester, at 55 Palmer Avenue. It asks patients to arrange to leave by 11:00 a.m. on discharge day, so a ride and a person at the house in the morning matter. See the hospital section below.
Chappaqua
The New Castle Community Center at 10 Senter Street is listed by the county as a Nutrition Program site for adults 60 and older. Meals need pre-registration, so sign up before the first visit and confirm hours and rides with the center.
Eastchester
Eastchester has its own Department of Senior Programs and Services at 40 Mill Road, and Lake Isle Town Park at 660 White Plains Road is also a county Nutrition Program site. Both require pre-registration for county meals. A companion can take your parent to either and keep the rest of the day going.
Elmsford
We could not confirm an Elmsford senior program in our sources. The county programs below apply, and Bee-Line ParaTransit serves addresses within 3/4 mile of a regular Bee-Line route, so check your parent's address against the route map before counting on it.
Harrison
We found no Harrison town senior page, so the county network is the starting point. SPRYE, the Rye-area group for adults 55 and older, lists Harrison in its service area, with weekday rides for medical visits, errands and groceries as a membership benefit.
Katonah
Katonah has the Van Tassel Senior Center, listed by the county as a Nutrition Program site (the county gives the address as 98 Primose St., Route 139), and the Katonah Village Library at 26 Bedford Road, a county caregiver resource library. Lasdon Public Gardens and Caramoor, both in Katonah, are the outings families ask about, and both have accessibility details listed below.
Larchmont
The Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center at 1288 Boston Post Road has a Larchmont address and is listed by the county as a Nutrition Program site for adults 60 and older. County meals need pre-registration. A companion can drive your parent there and stay for the day or come back at pickup.
Mamaroneck
Mamaroneck families use the same Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center on Boston Post Road. The town's own website did not load when we checked, so we know the center only from the county's directory. Call to confirm hours and programs before a first visit.
Mount Kisco
The Fox Senior Center at 198 Carpenter Avenue is a county Nutrition Program site, and Northern Westchester Hospital is at 400 East Main Street. The hospital's digital patient guide has a discharge planning checklist and lists companion care and adult day services among its after-hospital resources.
North Salem
We found no North Salem senior program. The nearest listing is the Town of Lewisboro's Wednesday senior meetings at the South Salem Firehouse, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a Senior Bus pickup. Whether North Salem residents can join is not stated, so ask the town. The county programs below apply.
Pelham
No Pelham senior program turned up in the sources we checked, so start with the county programs and ask the village what it offers. New Rochelle's Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center at 94 Davis Avenue and Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital are listed in the county directory if a family wants to look further.
Port Chester
The Port Chester Senior and Community Center at 222 Grace Church Street is a county Nutrition Program site, and the county lists it as the nearest site for congregate and home-delivered meals for Rye and Rye Brook residents too. The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library at 1 Haseco Avenue is a county caregiver resource library.
Pound Ridge
We found no Pound Ridge senior program in our sources. The county programs below apply, and for a house on a long rural road, the plan usually starts with how the caregiver arrives and where the nearest errands are. Tell us the address and we'll talk through the schedule.
White Plains
White Plains has the most in one place: White Plains Hospital, the county Department of Senior Programs and Services at 148 Martine Avenue, and the White Plains Public Library at 100 Martine Avenue, a county caregiver resource library. The Theodore D. Young Community Center at 32 Manhattan Avenue and the City's Community Center at 65 Mitchell Place are county Nutrition Program sites, and Meals on Wheels of White Plains delivers.

How New York licensing works

What companion care covers in New York, and what a license means

In New York, Endurance provides companion care only. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides and company at appointments, and reminders through the day, by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. Our caregivers give reminders and do not give hands-on help. We do not provide personal care in New York, and it is not part of our companion care there; nursing, home health, memory care services, medication administration and clinical care after a hospital stay are not part of it either.

New York licenses some home care agencies and not others. Under Public Health Law section 3605, a home care services agency that provides, directly or through contract, nursing services or aide services must hold a license from the State Department of Health. Endurance holds no New York home care license and provides companion care only. New York's business portal says an agency that provides solely companionship with light housekeeping, and no nursing, home health aide or personal care services, does not need that license.

Endurance holds no New York home care license, and we say so plainly because it tells you what we are. If you want to confirm anything with the state, the Department of Health takes questions at homecare@health.ny.gov.

To check an agency that does hold a license, search for it on the Department of Health's home care profiles site and compare the name to what the agency told you. A company that provides companion care only may not appear there, because that scope does not require the license. The state's Home Care Registry covers individual aides, not agencies. If a company says it provides aide services but is not on the state's list, ask why before going further.

Many families need both kinds of help at different times of day. A licensed agency can provide the care that needs a license, and a companion can cover the rest of the day and the night. We'll talk through which is which.

Hospital to home

Coming home from a Westchester hospital

Seven hospitals appear in this guide, and each hands families different guidance. Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville is now NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester, though the hospital's web address still says Lawrence. Two of the hospitals, White Plains Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester, ask patients to leave by 11 a.m. on the day of discharge, so the ride and the person at the house need to be ready by morning.

Before the discharge date, ask the case manager what the first week is expected to look like, who is driving, and who will be in the house when your parent walks in. If you'd like a companion there on arrival, tell us the date and we'll explain the next steps.

Around a hospital stay, a companion helps with the parts that aren't medical: the ride home, company the first night, meals, errands, and the drive and company at the follow-up appointment. Nursing and therapy after discharge come from the hospital's own teams and from licensed home health agencies, and your case manager can tell you which your parent needs.

White Plains Hospital
The Main Entrance is at 20 Davis Ave. and the Emergency Department at 41 East Post Road. The hospital's patient page says: "We ask your cooperation in making transportation arrangements for no later than 11 a.m. on the day of discharge." If you need help, it will arrange a local taxi or ambulette, and insurance does not cover those fees. It also says: "Be sure to meet with the Hospital's Care Management team early in your stay," and that most patients get a call from its WPH Cares team after discharge. Check the hospital's directions for the current entrance before you drive.
NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester, Bronxville
At 55 Palmer Avenue (main entrance on Pondfield Road West), open 24 hours. The going-home page says: "On your day of discharge, it is expected that you arrange to leave by 11:00 a.m." It asks that you or your caregiver speak with a discharge planner so you understand what services you may need, and says that if you need home assistance, "your Case Manager will provide a list of agencies for you to choose from." Ask what that list covers, since companion care is something families often arrange beside it.
Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla
The flagship hospital of the WMCHealth network, at 100 Woods Road. We found no dedicated discharge page, but the Patient and Family Guide says your care team can include case managers, so ask early who yours is.
Northern Westchester Hospital, Mount Kisco
At 400 East Main Street. Its digital patient guide includes a Checklist for Discharge Planning Ahead, a Support for Caregivers section, and after-hospital resource lists that name adult day services and companion care.
Phelps Hospital, Sleepy Hollow
At 701 North Broadway, a nonprofit acute care community hospital serving Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties. Its digital patient guide carries the same Checklist for Discharge Planning Ahead and Support for Caregivers.
Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital
At 16 Guion Place. Montefiore's social work page says: "The social worker will meet with the patient and their family early during their hospital stay to begin planning discharge." Take that meeting, with a list of questions.
St. John's Riverside Hospital, Yonkers
At 967 North Broadway. Its Care Transitions program is designed to assist a patient or loved one after discharge, including a medication review, timely physician follow-up care, and connecting you with follow-up testing, appointments and community resources.

Options beyond home

Assisted living, nursing homes and adult day across Westchester

Some families look at a community, and some arrange care at home. We list what the state and the county publish so you can compare, and we have no partnership with any of these places. The directory below carries 39 adult care residences and 40 nursing homes from the New York State Department of Health directories, with name and address only. The state directory does not say whether an entry is an adult home, enriched housing or an assisted living residence, so ask each one which it is and what help is included.

Nursing homes may offer skilled nursing and short-term rehab after a hospital stay. Ask what rehab is available, how visiting works, and what the family does while a parent is there.

Adult day programs come in two kinds in the county's directories. Social programs offer company, activities and meals. Medical programs, including a PACE program, add health services. Westchester County's Department of Senior Programs and Services publishes both lists with addresses, so contact each program about hours, eligibility and transportation.

A companion can work alongside any of these. For a parent in a community, a companion can visit for company, outings, a walk or a drive to an appointment, subject to that community's own rules for outside visitors, which you should ask about. For a parent who attends adult day, a companion can cover the hours before and after, run errands, and keep the evenings and weekends going. Our own scope in New York stays companion care.

Questions to ask on a tour
Which type of residence is this, and what level of help is included? How do visiting hours and outside companions work? What does a typical day look like, and how are meals handled? What happens if my parent's needs change, and who tells the family?
Social adult day programs
The county lists The Bethel Social Day Program in Ossining, Club Wartburg in Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon Social Adult Day Care Center, St. Andrew's Day Program in Hartsdale and Yorktown Social Adult Day Care in Cortlandt Manor.
Medical adult day programs
The county lists ArchCare Senior Life (PACE) in Dobbs Ferry, the Bethel Nursing Home Adult Day Health Program in Ossining, The Knolls Medical Adult Day Program in Valhalla, Morningside's adult day health care program in Hawthorne, The Wartburg Adult Day Health Care Program in Mount Vernon, and Yonkers Gardens Adult Day Health Care. These are medical programs. Endurance provides companion care only in New York.

County help

Westchester County services for older adults and caregivers

The county's Department of Senior Programs and Services runs most of what a family needs to know about, and its offices are at 148 Martine Avenue in White Plains and 9 South First Avenue in Mount Vernon. Call ahead for an appointment at the Mount Vernon caregiver center. Most of these programs are free to ask about, and several are worth a call before you arrange anything else.

NY Connects of Westchester
A free, confidential information line on long-term services and supports, run by the county's Senior Programs and Services, Social Services and the Office for the Disabled. It is open to an older adult, a family member or caregiver, a friend or neighbor, and professionals, with help in many languages and TTY. It covers health and everyday support services, including in-home and out-of-home care and transportation.
Family Caregiver Support Program
Free caregiver consultations to review your situation and options, educational programs across the county, an Older Driver Family Assistance Program for families worried about a parent who still drives, and a program for people 60 and over raising grandchildren.
Care Circles of Westchester
Volunteer groups that help an older person with daily needs not met by public funds, such as rides to the doctor, walking the dog, laundry or companionship. It is part of the county's Livable Communities work.
EISEP
The Expanded In-Home Services for the Elderly Program offers case management and in-home help with everyday tasks to people 60 or older who need help friends or relatives cannot provide. Charges follow a sliding fee schedule from no cost to full cost based on monthly income, and the home visit to develop a care plan is free. The case manager can help the family arrange a sitter companion.
Livable Communities
The county initiative, launched in 2006, helps older residents stay in their homes, now through a neighbors-helping-neighbors village approach. The county's own survey found transportation the greatest need of seniors.
Meals
The county Nutrition Program serves adults 60 and older at dining sites and delivers to medically eligible homebound seniors. Pre-registration is required, giving is voluntary, and income doesn't matter.
Project Lifesaver
A free program, run through Westchester Jewish Community Services, that fits a person who may wander with a radio-frequency bracelet so trained county police can find them.
Caregiver resource libraries and centers
Ten county libraries keep a caregiver reading section, listed in the directory below. The county also lists the Alzheimer's Association office in Purchase and ElderServe in Yonkers as caregiver full service centers; call to make an appointment.

Getting around

Rides in Westchester: Bee-Line ParaTransit and the options beside it

Bee-Line ParaTransit is the county's shared-ride, curb-to-curb service for residents who can't use the regular Bee-Line bus because of a disability. The county says that under the Americans with Disabilities Act, "disability alone does not qualify a person to ride the ParaTransit system. A person must be functionally unable to use the fixed route regular Bee-Line service."

Service runs within 3/4 mile of a regular Bee-Line route and only when that route operates. Reserve one to seven days ahead; next-day reservations are made online or by phone before 5 p.m. Core hours are Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with extended hours also listed. There is no service on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day.

Each eligible rider may bring one companion or guest, with additional guests as space allows, and an attendant listed on the application rides without charge. The attendant role belongs to the rider's application, so ask the county which category fits before you book. A companion caregiver can ride as the companion or guest, or drive your parent in the family car, and stay alongside at the appointment.

Other rides depend on the town. Scarsdale Senior Club members who live in the Village have a one-way taxi benefit for medical and dental appointments, Rye Brook runs a free Dial-A-Ride for residents who no longer drive, North Castle provides door-to-door transport to its senior drop-in center, and SPRYE members can book weekday rides for medical visits, errands and groceries. Bee-Line buses also offer reduced fares to riders 65 and over and Medicare card holders. If a parent still drives and you're worried, the county's Older Driver Family Assistance Program offers guidance.

Outings in Westchester with an older parent

A companion can turn an outing from a good idea into something that happens: driving, setting the pace, carrying the bag, and staying alongside. Here are the places with details a family can plan around. Check the notices before you go, because several have changes right now.

Kensico Dam Plaza, Valhalla
No county park pass is required for admission. The Rising, a September 11th memorial, can be approached from all directions so people of all ages and abilities can view it and move through it. Park hours run later in warm months (May through October, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and earlier in winter (December through February, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.). In November and December the plaza hosts the annual Winter Wonderland drive-through holiday lights, which a parent can see from the car.
Lasdon Public Gardens and Veterans Memorial, Katonah
A 234-acre county property with formal gardens, woodlands and memorials, open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Veterans Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. No county park pass is required, service animals are welcome. The Vietnam Memorial path is under construction with no public access, per a Friends of Lasdon notice from October 2026.
Playland, Rye
The county's amusement park, beach and pool publishes an ADA Access page describing an Access Pass and accessible ride entry points, and the Playland Plunge has an ADA-accessible entrance to the left of the main entrance. County park passes are not honored at Playland. The site currently says "See you next season!", so it is closed for the season. The adjacent Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary has 179 acres of shoreline, lake, salt marsh and trails.
Hudson River Museum, Yonkers
Open Wednesday to Friday, 12 to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free admission on the first Friday of each month, 5 to 8 p.m. The museum offers a discount for visitors with disabilities and admits their caregivers for free, and parking is free. Bee-Line Route 1 stops there. Glenview, the historic house, is closed for restoration.
Caramoor, Katonah
An 81-acre estate with gardens and concert venues. Its accessibility page lists accessible parking, entrances and seating, golf cart transport from the car on request, and complimentary wheelchairs at the Box Office, first come first served. The Rosen House is a historic home and is not fully accessible. Check the concert calendar for the season.
Trailways and Trails Without Limits
The Andrew P. O'Rourke Westchester County Trailway is a paved path of 36.2 miles, and the Bronx River Pathway is a paved path of 11.2 miles. The Bronx River Pathway is closed between North Broadway and Fisher Lane until further notice, per a county notice dated October 19, 2026. Trails Without Limits, a free Westchester Parks Foundation program, rotates through county parks from March through November and lets people with mobility concerns use an all-terrain Trackchair.
County park passes
Residents 60 and older can buy a Senior Citizen Park Pass with discounted weekday admission and parking, and a Disabled Resident Park Pass is also available. County park passes are not honored at Playland.

What it costs

What companion care costs in Westchester, and how families pay

Endurance publishes no prices. What a family pays depends on the schedule: hours per week, overnight, live-in or around the clock. We explain the cost in the first conversation, and nothing starts until you say so. Endurance is private pay and does not accept insurance directly, and Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.

For a market reference only, the CareScout Cost of Care Survey (fielded July through November 2025) puts the New York state median for an in-home caregiver at $35 an hour, $6,673 a month, or $80,080 a year, based on 44 hours a week for 52 weeks. That is a statewide figure, not an Endurance price, and CareScout notes that a provider's price may differ from the median.

Some help is public. The county's EISEP program charges on a sliding fee from no cost to full cost based on monthly income, and a case manager can help arrange a sitter companion. NY Connects can tell you what else you may qualify for.

Questions about companion care in Westchester County

Do you provide home care in Westchester County?

We provide companion care in Westchester County, yes: company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides and company at appointments, and reminders, by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. We do not provide personal care or nursing in New York, and personal care is not part of our companion care there. If your parent needs that, a licensed agency is the route, and we can work alongside one.

Which office serves Westchester County?

Our office at 60 Long Ridge Rd, Suite 214, Stamford, CT 06902 arranges care in Westchester County. A registered nurse visits at home to write the care plan with you, and a Care Manager keeps your family updated.

Which home care agencies serve Westchester?

Many do, and they differ in what their caregivers are allowed to do. Ask each one to describe exactly what a caregiver does. In New York, an agency that provides nursing or aide services must be licensed by the Department of Health, and you can look it up on the state's profiles site. Also ask about screening, who visits first, and who you call when something changes.

Does Endurance hold a New York home care license?

No. Endurance holds no New York home care license and provides companion care only. New York's business portal says an agency providing solely companionship with light housekeeping, and no nursing, home health aide or personal care services, does not need the license. A companion-only provider may not appear on the Department of Health's licensed agency search, because that scope does not require the license.

What does a companion caregiver do?

Keeps your parent company, makes meals, keeps the house in order, runs errands, drives to appointments and gives reminders through the day, at the hours you choose.

Can a companion stay overnight or live in?

Yes. Companion care runs overnight, live-in or around the clock in Westchester County. A live-in caregiver lives in the home, so the household provides a private room to sleep and rest. Overnight care and 24-hour care are options if there is no spare room, with caregivers awake through the night.

What is the difference between live-in care and 24-hour care?

With live-in care, a caregiver lives in the home and has agreed time for rest, including a night's sleep. With 24-hour care, caregivers work in shifts and stay awake, so support carries on through the day and the night. Tell us what a typical day and night look like, and we'll help you choose.

How does Bee-Line ParaTransit work?

It is a shared-ride, curb-to-curb service for county residents who are functionally unable to use the regular Bee-Line bus. It runs within 3/4 mile of a regular route, and you reserve one to seven days ahead, or by 5 p.m. for next day. Each rider may bring one companion or guest, and a listed attendant rides free.

What happens on discharge day at White Plains Hospital?

The hospital asks that the ride home be arranged for no later than 11 a.m. If you need help, it will arrange a local taxi or ambulette, and insurance does not cover those fees. Meet the Care Management team early in the stay, and expect a call from the WPH Cares team afterward. Check the hospital's directions for the current entrance.

What should we ask at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester before discharge?

The hospital, formerly Lawrence Hospital, asks patients to leave by 11:00 a.m. Speak with a discharge planner so you understand what services you may need. If you need home assistance, the Case Manager provides a list of agencies to choose from. Ask what the list covers, and who will be at the house when your parent arrives.

Is there adult day care in Westchester?

Yes. The county publishes directories of social and medical adult day programs, with addresses, in places such as Ossining, Mount Vernon, Hartsdale, Dobbs Ferry, Valhalla, Hawthorne and Yonkers. Contact each program about hours, eligibility and transportation. A companion can cover the hours before and after, and the errands in between.

Can Endurance coordinate with a town senior program?

Yes, a companion schedule can work around an eligible town program or public ride. We don't run those programs, so check the current rules with the town directly.

How much does home care cost in Westchester?

Endurance publishes no prices, and the cost depends on the schedule. As a market reference only, the CareScout 2025 survey puts the New York state median for an in-home caregiver at $35 an hour, or $80,080 a year at 44 hours a week. Endurance is private pay. The county's EISEP program uses a sliding fee.

What county help is there for family caregivers?

The county's Department of Senior Programs and Services runs NY Connects, a free information line, and the Family Caregiver Support Program, with free consultations and education. Care Circles of Westchester organizes volunteers for rides and companionship, and EISEP provides case management and in-home help with everyday tasks on a sliding fee.

Where can I take my parent for an outing in Westchester?

Kensico Dam Plaza needs no county pass, and Lasdon Public Gardens is open daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Hudson River Museum admits caregivers of visitors with disabilities free. Caramoor lists accessible parking and loaner wheelchairs. Playland is closed for the season, and the Bronx River Pathway is closed between North Broadway and Fisher Lane.
