Care here is bought in hours, not in beds, and four shapes cover almost every household in town. The town's own infrastructure is real, and it is better than most towns get. A senior center on the main commercial street is a short errand rather than an expedition, and a commission that has been planning for older residents since 1975 has outlasted most of the agencies working in the county.

What neither a senior center nor a planning department is built to do is be in the kitchen on a Tuesday morning when getting dressed took forty minutes. Programs happen on the town's calendar. The rest of the week happens on the household's.
