What senior living options are there in Rye Brook, NY?

Atria Rye Brook on King Street lists independent living only, and King Street Home and The Enclave at Rye are skilled nursing facilities on King and High Streets. We verified no assisted living inside Rye Brook; the nearest is The Osborn in Rye. Endurance provides companion care, at home or inside a community.

How to decide what kind of place or help fits

Start with the day and what it needs. Where does help run out: meals, the evenings, getting to appointments, the nights, remembering things? If the answer is company, meals, errands and rides, care at home may be enough. If your parent needs more than that, such as medication help or nursing, look at assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing, or ask your parent's doctor which kind of care applies. Endurance does not provide those in New York.

Ask your parent what they want. Many people want to stay in the house, and some want the company and routine of a community. A hospital case manager and NY Connects, the county's free information line, can each help you compare. Rye Brook, the City of Rye and Port Chester are separate places with separate programs, so check which one an address is in.

Independent living in Rye Brook

Independent living is a home in a community with meals and amenities. Atria Rye Brook at 1200 King Street describes its community as independent senior living, with a private apartment, 24/7 staff, chef-prepared meals, housekeeping and linen laundering, and scheduled local transportation. Ask what is in the monthly rent, what costs extra and how the community handles a change in needs.

Atria's own page lists independent living only, though some older directories list it with assisted living. Ask Atria directly what help it provides. The Osborn in the City of Rye also has independent living, in Sterling Park garden homes and apartments.

Assisted living near Rye Brook

Assisted living is an apartment in a community with staff nearby for daily help. We verified no stand-alone assisted living residence inside Rye Brook. The nearest we could verify is The Osborn's Grandview Assisted Living Residences at 101 Theall Road in the City of Rye, about 13 minutes from Village Hall, which lists three licence types: Assisted Living Residence, Enhanced Assisted Living Residence and Special Needs Assisted Living Residence.

The Osborn is also a life plan community, so a couple can ask how a move between levels works on one campus. It lists short stays too, which some families use to try a place or give a caregiver a break.

Memory care near Rye Brook

A memory care community is a staffed neighborhood for people living with memory loss. The Osborn's Edward C. Pasciuti H.O.P.E. Center is a 13-suite memory care center in the City of Rye, with round-the-clock oversight from professionals certified in dementia care, as the community describes it.

Endurance does not provide memory care services in New York. If your parent moves to a community, companion visits can add company, outings and rides. The Osborn hosts a free Alzheimer's Association caregiver group on the third Thursday of each month, 10:30 a.m. to noon, and the Alzheimer's Association caregiver center in Purchase takes appointments.

King Street, High Street and rehab near Rye Brook

Skilled nursing and rehabilitation is a medical setting, for a short stay after a hospital or a longer one. King Street Home Inc (listed in older directories as King Street Rehab) at 787 King Street and The Enclave at Rye Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at 1000 High Street are licensed by the New York Department of Health as skilled nursing facilities. The Osborn's Pasciuti Pavilion in Rye and Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains are the other options families mention.

Admission usually starts with the hospital case manager and the doctor. Ask the facility what it needs from the hospital, and what happens to the room if your parent returns home. Endurance does not provide skilled nursing or therapy in New York. A companion can visit during a stay and be at home when your parent returns.

Adult day care near Rye Brook

We found no adult day program in Rye Brook, Rye or Port Chester on the county directories. The nearest verified are River House in Cos Cob, Connecticut, a medical model program open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a registered nurse on site, and Club Wartburg in Mount Vernon. Ask each how pickup works from Rye Brook.

The Rye Brook Senior Center is a social option for adults 55 and older, with a hot lunch and classes on weekdays. A day program covers weekday daytime, and families often need the rest: the ride, the evenings, the weekend and the nights. Companion care can fill those, by the hour.

How companion care works alongside or instead of a community

Instead: some families find that company, meals, errands, rides and someone in the house, by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock, is the help their parent needs. Alongside: a companion can visit a parent at Atria or in another community for company, outings, errands and rides, and can be at home when a rehabilitation stay ends.

We do not provide the community's care and we have no partnership with any community. Each sets its own rules for outside visitors, so ask before you book. A registered nurse visits first to plan the care, you meet the companion before the first visit, and your Care Manager keeps you posted.

Questions to ask on a tour

Ask what a typical day looks like and who is on duty at night. Ask which services are in the monthly fee and which cost extra, how the fee changes when needs change, and how the community decides a resident needs a different level. Ask about visitor hours, outside companions and scheduled transportation, and how far it goes.

Ask how the community handles a hospital stay and what happens to the apartment. Ask how families are told when something changes. Take your parent, take a list, and take a second visit at a different time of day.

Paying for each

Medicare says it does not pay for most long-term custodial care, including care in a nursing home or in the community. Assisted living and independent living are generally paid privately, through long-term care insurance if your parent has a policy, or through Medicaid where eligible for some settings. Ask each community for its fee schedule in writing. For short rehabilitation stays, ask the hospital case manager and the facility what your parent's coverage includes and for how long.

Care at home with Endurance is private pay, and we publish no prices. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Westchester County's EISEP arranges in-home help for adults 60 and older on a sliding fee, and NY Connects can tell you what else is available.
