Rides in New Fairfield come from SweetHART
New Fairfield doesn't run a senior van of its own. The Senior Center on Route 37 sends ride requests to HARTransit's SweetHART Dial-A-Ride, for residents 65 and over and people of any age with a mobility impairment. Riders apply ahead of time with photo ID, and the eligibility decision can take up to 21 days, so it's worth applying before a ride is needed.
SweetHART runs here Monday to Saturday. Trips can be booked up to two weeks ahead and no later than 4 in the afternoon on the weekday before. A caregiver can cover what falls outside that: a ride arranged the same morning, a Sunday errand, or help getting ready before the van arrives. We also cover the couple of weeks after a hospital stay, a short arrangement that should end when your husband is steady again.
Cover here is arranged in longer blocks than it would be in a walkable town, and a caregiver who doesn't drive can't work it. Day to day, our caregivers help with personal care, bathing, dressing, mobility support and transfers within a caregiver's training, medication reminders, meal preparation, the household routine and companionship. Where a clinical plan already exists, we work alongside it.
