Care options in Sea Girt
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
The library that delivers
The Sea Girt Library sits in the former train station on The Plaza. It became an independent municipal library in 2021, and it now offers curbside checkout and delivery, so a parent who would rather not drive can keep up the reading. It also runs a morning book club and an evening book club.
The library is closed Sundays and closes at 12:30pm on Friday and Saturday. A caregiver can pick up held books, drive your father to a book club meeting and stay with him through it, and be there to talk it over afterward.
Rides and storm alerts
Monmouth County's published list of senior centers has no entry for Sea Girt, so rides come through the county. Its Ride in Monmouth shared ride is open to Monmouth County residents 60 and over, runs Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 3:30pm, gives priority to medical trips and food shopping, and needs a reservation four days ahead.
The borough's resident notification system lets people choose alerts from departments such as Police, Fire, Emergency Management and Beach Patrol by text or email, with phone calls for emergencies, and the Office of Emergency Management asks each household to make a family plan with one designated family contact. A caregiver who knows the plan can be at the house when an alert comes in, and call you.

Questions Sea Girt families ask
Does Sea Girt have a senior center?
Monmouth County's published list of senior centers has no entry for Sea Girt. The county's Division on Aging in Freehold is the place to ask what programs and services your parent can use, and a caregiver can take them to any that suit them.
Will the Sea Girt Library bring books to my father?
The library says it now provides curbside checkout and delivery, and families place a request with the library. It also runs morning and evening book clubs. A caregiver can take your father to a meeting and stay with him, or bring his next book to the house.
Can my mother get to a doctor's appointment without driving?
Monmouth County's shared ride is open to residents 60 and over, Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 3:30pm, with priority for medical trips, and a reservation four days ahead. For a sooner appointment, or a ride in the evening or on a weekend, a caregiver can drive her and stay with her through the visit.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
