Care options in Colts Neck
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
No senior center, so the county does the driving
Colts Neck doesn't have a senior center on Monmouth County's list, so rides come from the county. Its Shared Ride service takes residents 60 and over on weekdays from 7:30am to 3:30pm with four days' notice, and gives priority to medical trips and food shopping. A second county service, open to the general public, lists Colts Neck in its service area and runs the same weekday hours. The county also lists Interfaith Neighbors as a provider of home-delivered meals.
Both rides stop at 3:30pm. A caregiver covers an afternoon appointment, a change of plans midweek, a weekend errand, or staying with your father through the visit.
Paperwork, alerts and the Wednesday evening window
The Tax Assessor helps with the state and local deduction programs for seniors, veterans, the disabled and their surviving spouses. The office is open Wednesday from 5PM to 8PM and at other times by appointment. The township sends emergency alerts through Smart911 and keeps a No Knock Registry, also called the Do Not Solicit List.
A caregiver can gather the paperwork with your father, drive him to the Wednesday evening hours or an appointment, and sit with him while the Smart911 and No Knock sign-ups get done. Between those errands, the hours at home are what the plan is built around.

Questions Colts Neck families ask
Does Colts Neck have a senior center?
Not one on Monmouth County's list of senior centers. The county's Division on Aging in Freehold is the main office for senior services, and the township's Recreation and Parks Department registers local programs through Community Pass. A caregiver can fill the days and hours between them.
What rides are there for older residents of Colts Neck?
The county's Shared Ride serves residents 60 and over on weekdays from 7:30am to 3:30pm and needs four days' notice. A separate county service open to the general public lists Colts Neck in its service area on the same hours. After 3:30pm and on weekends, a caregiver can drive.
Where do I get help with the senior property tax deduction in Colts Neck?
The Tax Assessor assists with deduction programs for seniors, veterans, the disabled and their surviving spouses. Hours are Wednesday from 5PM to 8PM, and other times by appointment. A caregiver can drive your father there and help him gather the paperwork.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your father has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
