Care options in Manasquan
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
Stretch classes, bocce and game day with Manasquan Seniors
Manasquan Seniors is a group for men and women 55 and over in and around Manasquan, run as an arm of Manasquan Recreation. At the Manasquan Community Senior Center on Atlantic Avenue, Stretch and Strength classes start at 9:30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Game and Activity Day is Fridays at 1pm. Bocce is played on Thursdays at 10am behind police headquarters.
The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month, except July and August, at noon in the St. Denis School cafeteria on Virginia Avenue. It also runs Singles Out lunches and dinners, plans trips through the year and welcomes new members. Manasquan Recreation's indoor pickleball at St. Denis has a Super Seniors level that costs nothing. A caregiver can help your father with the morning routine so he's ready for a 9:30 class, drive him there and back and stay with him if he'd like company.
Storm alerts, rides and books
Manasquan Emergency Alerts sends voice calls, texts and emails, and residents sign up through the borough's registry. The borough suggests checking off both voice and text, since the most critical warnings will likely come by voice call. The borough also runs its own AM radio station at 1620, on around the clock. A caregiver can make sure your mother is signed up for both and be there when a call comes in.
Manasquan Public Library at 55 Broad Street is open until 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays and until 1:30pm on Saturdays, and the Monmouth County Library System lists homebound services there. For appointments, Ride in Monmouth's shared ride takes seniors 60 and over Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 3:30pm, with priority for medical trips and food shopping, and needs a reservation four days ahead. A caregiver can cover the later appointment or the weekend trip.

Questions Manasquan families ask
What is Manasquan Seniors, and where does it meet?
It's a group for people 55 and over, run as an arm of Manasquan Recreation. Classes and game day are at the Manasquan Community Senior Center, 63 Atlantic Avenue, and monthly meetings are on the second Tuesday, except July and August, at the St. Denis School cafeteria. A caregiver can take your parent and stay with them.
How do I sign my mother up for Manasquan's emergency alerts?
The borough's Office of Emergency Management has a Manasquan Emergency Alerts registry portal. It asks that you check off both voice and text alerts, because the most critical warnings will likely come as a voice call. A caregiver can help her sign up and answer when the call comes.
Can my father get to a doctor's appointment without driving?
Ride in Monmouth's shared ride is open to seniors 60 and over, Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 3:30pm, with priority for medical trips, and needs a reservation four days ahead. For a sooner appointment, a later one or a weekend, a caregiver can drive him and stay with him through the visit.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
