Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors and county rides
Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors, the borough's group for residents 55 and over, meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the Education Center of the Hermitage. The borough doesn't run its own bus. Bergen County Community Transportation offers free door-to-door rides for older residents, and it comes to each town on set days.
A caregiver can fill in around both: a ride to a Tuesday meeting, appointments on the days the county bus doesn't come, and company and a meal at home in between. The plans that work here look different from ones an hour south: less personal care, more standing blocks that put someone in the house on a rhythm and, just as important, get them out of it.

How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your husband has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home. We don't publish a rate, because one figure would be wrong for most households. Ask on the first call and you'll get a real range.
Do you provide nursing?
No. Our caregivers handle daily life: personal care, meals, the house, medication reminders and company. Nursing and therapy come from your parent's doctor or a home health agency, and we build our hours around their plan.
