The senior shuttle, and the hours after 2
Glen Rock's Senior Shuttle is free and runs on weekdays from 8:30am to 2pm, with grocery trips to ShopRite and Stop & Shop on Tuesdays and set outings on Thursdays and Fridays. For a doctor's visit it will pick your father up at home, take him to the appointment and bring him back. The Senior Services office at 1 Harding Plaza arranges it.
For times the shuttle isn't running, Borough Hall sells discounted Ridgewood Taxi coupons, $25 worth for $11. A caregiver can cover what neither one does: an afternoon appointment, staying with him through the visit, or a ride on the weekend.
Help Glen Rock already brings to the door
Glen Rock Public Library delivers books to residents who can't get to the library because of limited mobility or illness, with a Glen Rock library card. Community Meals volunteers bring meals to homebound residents on weekdays between 11:30am and 12:30pm, and a free Health Consultation Service, with a public health nurse for blood pressure checks, meets at Glen Courts on the second and fourth Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:30pm.
If your father lives alone, the borough asks him to register with the Office of Emergency Management so another resident can be assigned to check on him before, during and after a storm. Volunteers also rake leaves and shovel walks through Big Sweep and Shovel 4 Seniors. A caregiver fits around all of it, with the meals, company and daily help in between.

Will the Glen Rock senior shuttle take my father to the doctor?
Yes, on weekdays between 8:30am and 2pm. It picks him up at home, takes him to the appointment and brings him home. For later appointments, weekends, or when he'd like someone with him, a caregiver can drive him and stay through the visit.
What is the Glen Rock Senior Citizens Club?
It meets every Wednesday at the Municipal Annex for day trips, special lunches, speakers and entertainers, and membership is $5 a year. A caregiver can help your parent get there and back on Wednesdays.
Can a caregiver help a parent living at Glen Courts?
Yes. Glen Courts at 1 Glen Avenue is independent senior housing, and the borough notes it isn't intended for people who need assisted living or nursing care. If your parent there needs more help day to day, a caregiver can come to their apartment.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
