Serving Washington from our Stamford office
Home care in Washington
Washington's senior bus gets your mother or father to appointments and errands on weekdays, and a caregiver can take it the rest of the way: to the door, into the visit and home again. Whether they live in Washington Depot, New Preston or elsewhere in town, tell us what's changed, and we'll plan the hours with you.

Does Endurance Home Care provide home care in Washington?
Yes. We provide home care throughout Washington, including Washington Depot and New Preston, from our Stamford office. Your family can choose hourly visits, awake overnight care, live-in care or care around the clock, as companion care or personal care with hands-on help. A registered nurse comes to the house first to write the care plan with you, and you meet the caregiver before the first visit.
Care options in Washington
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
The senior bus, and a caregiver for the rest of the trip
Washington's senior bus runs on weekdays for medical appointments, groceries and special activities. The town calls the service limited and recommends reserving at least three days ahead. It is first come, first served, medical appointments come first, and a same-day request for the same appointment can't be accommodated. Trips go to Danbury, Newtown, Brookfield, New Milford, Woodbury, Southbury and Torrington, and the Senior Center, open Monday to Friday from 9 to 4, takes the reservations.
The bus is curb to curb. The driver can't come into your home or into the medical building, and can't take someone home from a surgical service or when they are under anesthesia. A caregiver can meet your father at the door, go in with him, wait through the visit and see him home safely, and be there afterward.
Social Services, tax relief and help close to home
Washington's Municipal Agent for the Elderly gives older residents information and referrals to services and benefit programs, from the lower level of Bryan Memorial Town Hall at 2 Bryan Hall Plaza, Monday to Wednesday from 8:30 to 3 and Thursday from 8:30 to 2. Social Services also takes applications for energy assistance, SNAP and state health insurance from income-eligible residents, and the Warren and Washington Food Pantry is open on Thursdays at 7 Sackett Hill Road in Warren.
Homeowners 65 or older, or on Social Security disability, may qualify for a state tax credit, with applications from February 1 at the Assessor's office. The town also runs a Local Town Benefit program for those slightly over the income limits. A caregiver fits around all of it, with the meals, company and daily help in between.
Getting started
How care is arranged in Washington
It starts with a conversation, and nothing begins until you say so.

Questions Washington families ask
Will the Washington senior bus bring my father home after a procedure?
No. The town says the senior bus can't take someone home from a surgical service or when they are under anesthesia, and the driver can't come into the medical building. A caregiver can go in with him, stay through the visit and bring him home.
How far ahead do I reserve the Washington senior bus?
The town recommends at least three days ahead, because service is limited and first come, first served. Medical appointments are the first priority, and a same-day request for the same appointment can't be accommodated. Call the Senior Center to reserve. When the bus isn't available, a caregiver can drive.
Who helps older residents find services in Washington?
The Municipal Agent for the Elderly, who is also Washington's Director of Social Services, provides information and referrals to services and benefit programs. The office is in the lower level of Bryan Memorial Town Hall. A caregiver can cover the hours while you make those calls.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
