Home care in Farmington
If your mother in Farmington has her days at the senior center and her own house to come home to, but the rest of the week takes more help than it used to, some help at home can fill the gaps. Tell us what's changed, and we'll plan the hours with you.

Does Endurance Home Care provide home care in Farmington?
Yes. We provide home care throughout Farmington, including Unionville, from our Stamford office. Your family can choose hourly visits, awake overnight care, live-in care or care around the clock, as companion care or personal care with hands-on help. A registered nurse comes to the house first to write the care plan with you, and you meet the caregiver before the first visit.
Care options in Farmington
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
Booking Dial-A-Ride ahead, and what happens when it's canceled
Farmington Community Services manages Dial-A-Ride for Farmington, Unionville and Avon. Medical appointments have priority and can be reserved up to two weeks in advance. Every other trip is booked 24 to 48 hours ahead, and the service may be canceled in severe weather. The Farmington Senior Center at 321 New Britain Avenue keeps weekday hours, Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm.
That works well for a planned trip. It's harder on a snowy morning, on a weekend, or when the plans change the night before. A caregiver can drive when the service isn't running, stay through a visit, and be at the house in the evenings and on the days the senior center is closed.
Outreach, check-ins and a support group for families
Farmington Senior Services runs Elderly Outreach Services for Farmington and Unionville residents over 60 who may be homebound or having trouble getting out. Volunteers make regular telephone check-ins, and the Farmington Library's Outreach Service delivers materials free to anyone confined to their residence. There is also a Caregiver Support Group for people looking after an elderly parent, which covers town, state and federal programs, home care and transportation.
Those services keep your parent in touch and give you somewhere to ask questions. A caregiver adds the daily help in between: breakfast, company through the afternoon, a safe evening routine, and a phone update to you if you live far away.

Questions Farmington families ask
How far ahead do I book Farmington Dial-A-Ride?
Medical appointments have priority and can be reserved up to two weeks ahead. Other trips are booked 24 to 48 hours in advance, and the service may be canceled in severe weather. When a ride isn't available, a caregiver can drive your parent.
What are Farmington's Elderly Outreach Services?
It's a town service for Farmington and Unionville residents over 60 who may be homebound or finding it hard to get out into the community. Volunteers also make regular telephone check-ins. A caregiver adds the daily hours at home that outreach calls don't cover.
Is there a support group for family caregivers in Farmington?
Yes. Farmington Senior Services runs a Caregiver Support Group for people helping an elderly parent, covering town, state and federal programs, home care and transportation. If you'd like a caregiver to cover the hours while you attend, we can plan the schedule around it.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
