Home care in Avon
Avon's Senior Center and Dial-A-Ride both keep weekday hours, 9 to 4. If it's the evenings, the weekends and the days in between that have become hard for your mother or father, some help at home can cover them. Tell us what's changed, and we'll plan the hours with you.

Does Endurance Home Care provide home care in Avon?
Yes. We provide home care throughout Avon from our Stamford office. Your family can choose hourly visits, awake overnight care, live-in care or care around the clock, as companion care or personal care with hands-on help. A registered nurse comes to the house first to write the care plan with you, and you meet the caregiver before the first visit.
Care options in Avon
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
Dial-A-Ride, the Senior Center and the hours around them
Avon's Dial-A-Ride is for people 60 and over, and it runs Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are no rides on days Town Hall is closed. Rides need at least a day's notice, medical appointments get priority and can be scheduled far in advance, and a same-day request works only if there is a cancellation or an opening. For appointments outside Avon, such as in Hartford, the town offers an Enhanced Dial-A-Ride service.
The Senior Center at 635 West Avon Road keeps the same weekday hours, 9 to 4. A caregiver can drive when the schedule doesn't fit, go into the appointment with your mother and stay with her, and be at the house on holidays, evenings and weekends.
Lunch, screenings and meals at home
The Senior Center serves a hot lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays, sponsored by CRT. Reservations are required and are made by noon the day before, with a $3 donation for people over 60. A free, walk-in blood pressure clinic runs on the first and third Thursday of each month from 11 to 1. For people who are ill, homebound or disabled, Meals on Wheels comes through the McLean Home.
Property tax relief for senior and disabled homeowners is applied for between February 1 and May 15, and Avon Social Services, at 60 West Main Street, Building 5, provides information and referral services. A caregiver adds what falls between: the meals on the days there's no lunch, company in the afternoon and a steady evening routine.

Questions Avon families ask
How far ahead do I book Avon Dial-A-Ride?
Rides need at least a day's notice. Medical appointments have priority and can be scheduled far in advance, other rides are booked 24 to 48 hours ahead, and a same-day request works only if there is a cancellation or an opening. Rides run weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and not on days Town Hall is closed. When a ride isn't available, a caregiver can drive your parent.
Is there a hot lunch at the Avon Senior Center?
Yes, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Reservations are required, made by noon the day before, and the cost is a $3 donation for people over 60. On the other days, a caregiver can make lunch at home and sit down with your parent.
Can my mother get Meals on Wheels in Avon?
Avon lists Meals on Wheels, provided through the McLean Home, for people who are ill, homebound or disabled. A caregiver can be at the house when a meal arrives and can make the rest of the day's meals.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
