Care options in Southampton
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Lunch at the community center, and the hours after 3pm
The Town runs three senior community centers: Hampton Bays on Ponquogue Avenue, Bridgehampton on the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike and the Crohan Center in Flanders. They're open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm, senior programming ends at 3pm, and a hot lunch is served at noon. If you'd like an alternate choice, call the center by 10:30am to pre-order.
A companion can start the morning with breakfast and the drive to the center, keep your mother company through the afternoon once programming ends, and be there in the evenings and on weekends, when the centers are closed.
The senior shuttle, meals at home and a daily call
The Town's senior shuttle runs Monday to Friday, except holidays, for residents who are at least 60 or handicapped and have registered in advance. It follows a regular planned schedule: shopping trips go to Riverhead on Tuesdays and to Hampton Bays on Wednesdays. For a home-bound senior, the community centers can arrange delivered meals five days a week, and the Town's Are you Okay program makes one phone call a day, every day of the year.
A companion can drive on the days the shuttle doesn't go or to places that aren't on its schedule, do the shopping with your mother or for her, and be there on the days the delivered meals and the shuttle don't come.
