Does Endurance Home Care provide companion care in Sag Harbor?

Yes. We provide companion care throughout Sag Harbor from our Stamford office. It can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. A registered nurse visits first to plan the care with your family, and you meet your companion before the first visit.

The library on Main Street

John Jermain Memorial Library at 201 Main Street is open every day. It keeps weekday hours from 9am to 6pm, except Thursday, when it stays open until 9, and 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Its regular senior programs include the AARP Safe Driving Course, one-on-one Medicare counseling, sessions with a Senior Advocate from the Suffolk County Office for the Aging and a senior ping-pong meet-up.

For a parent who can't get out, the library's Homebound Delivery Service mails books, books on CD and DVDs to district residents who can't leave home, for a time or for good. Returns go back in the same pouch at no cost. A companion can help your mother choose what to borrow, take her to a program on Main Street and stay with her afterward.

Senior centers in two towns

Senior programs here come from two towns, Southampton and East Hampton, and the library's senior page lists a center from each. Southampton's Bridgehampton Community Center, at 585 Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike, serves a hot lunch at noon on weekdays and offers round-trip transportation if needed. The Town's senior shuttle runs on weekdays, with advance reservations required.

East Hampton Town's Senior Center at 128 Springs Fireplace Road serves a main meal at noon on weekdays, and its door-to-door senior transportation needs a reservation at least 72 hours ahead. Each Town also runs grocery shopping help for residents 60 and over. A companion can fill the gaps: a ride when the booking window has passed, lunch at home on the days the centers are closed, and the evenings and weekends.

Getting started

How care is arranged in Sag Harbor

It starts with a conversation, and nothing begins until you say so.

  1. A conversation

Call or send a request. Tell us who needs help, where they live and what's been getting harder. You don't need the right words.

  2. A nurse visits at home

A registered nurse comes to the house in Sag Harbor, gets to know everyone and writes the care plan with you.

  3. You meet the caregiver

We choose a caregiver for the routines and preferences that matter and introduce them before the first visit. If it isn't working, we find someone else.

  4. Updates as you go

Your Care Manager keeps you posted and changes the plan with you when needs change.

Credentials and recognition

    Questions Sag Harbor families ask

Does Sag Harbor have its own senior center?

The library's senior page lists none in the village. It points instead to the Town of Southampton's Bridgehampton Community Center at 585 Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike, the Town of East Hampton's Senior Center at 128 Springs Fireplace Road and Southampton Town Senior Services. Which Town's programs apply depends on where your parent lives.

Can the library bring books to my father at home?

Yes. John Jermain's Homebound Delivery Service mails books, books on CD and DVDs to district residents who can't leave home, temporarily or permanently, and returns go back in the same pouch at no cost. Ask for the Reference Desk to set it up. A companion can help him choose titles and read to him if he'd enjoy it.

What do winter nights mean for an overnight caregiver's parking?

Under Village code, no one may park on a public street in Sag Harbor between midnight and 6:30am once more than an inch of snow has fallen, and cars left there may be ticketed or towed. A caregiver working overnight or living in needs a driveway space or another arrangement, and we'll talk it through with you when we plan the schedule.

How do families pay for companion care?

Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home.
