Care options in East Hampton
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
A weekday at the Senior Center
The Town's Department of Human Services runs its senior programs from the Senior Citizens Center at 128 Springs Fireplace Road, for residents 60 and over. The center serves a main meal at noon, Monday to Friday, and its Grab & Go service hands out five frozen meals to heat up at home, on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings between 9 and 11. Some 60+ wellness classes meet at Ashawagh Hall, 780 Springs Fireplace Road.
A companion can drive to the center and home again, sit down to lunch with him, collect the Grab & Go meals, and be there in the evenings and on weekends, outside the weekday program.
Rides booked three days ahead, and groceries by order
Senior transportation is door to door, for residents 60 and over who have no other way to get around, for essential trips like medical appointments and food shopping and for Town programs. Reservations must be made at least 72 hours ahead, and it covers scheduled appointments, not emergencies. The Town's shopping program takes grocery orders by phone or in person, has staff do the shopping, delivers to the door and helps unpack, and aides can go along for seniors who'd rather shop themselves.
A companion can drive on short notice, stay with your father through the visit, and shop beside him. The Town also keeps a free, voluntary registry of residents with special needs, so emergency staff know who needs help evacuating in a hurricane or flood, and a companion can stay with him through the night when a storm is coming.

How do I book a senior ride in East Hampton?
Reservations must be made at least 72 hours in advance. The ride is door to door, for essential trips like medical appointments and food shopping and for Town programs, and it's for scheduled appointments, not emergencies. When an appointment comes up sooner than that, a companion can drive your mother and stay through the visit.
Can someone do my mother's grocery shopping in East Hampton?
The Town's shopping program can. Orders are taken by phone or in person, staff do the shopping, and the groceries are delivered to the door, with help unpacking. A companion can shop with her instead, put the groceries away and cook with her.
How do families pay for companion care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home.
