Serving Dix Hills from our Stamford office
Companion care in Dix Hills
Dix Hills families have a lot to draw on: a library branch on Vanderbilt Parkway that delivers, and the Town of Huntington's Senior Center and clubs. What's often missing is someone to get your mother to them and be there afterward. We can send a companion who does the driving, stays and keeps her company at home.
The first conversation is free, and nothing starts until you say so.

Care options in Dix Hills
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
The Town's Senior Center and clubs
Dix Hills is in the Town of Huntington, whose Senior Division runs the John J. Flanagan Senior Center at 423 Park Avenue, open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. It's a Suffolk County Nutrition Site. The Town also has nine senior clubs for residents 60 and older, meeting from late morning to early afternoon at locations around the Town. If the weather turns, the Senior Center can tell you whether a club meeting is cancelled.
A companion can drive your mother to Park Avenue or to a club, stay if she'd like company, and be with her after the center closes at 4:30 and on weekends.
Books, groceries and the Town's other help
The Half Hollow Hills Community Library has a Dix Hills branch at 55 Vanderbilt Parkway. Its Outreach Delivery Service brings items free to district residents who can't visit in person because of a permanent or temporary condition, and the application asks whether you'd like audio, large print or standard print. The Town's Shopping Assistance Program, for residents 60 and older, can include online ordering, curbside pickup, shopping on a client's behalf and help receiving groceries at home.
A companion can fill in the library application with your father, be home when the books arrive, read the large print with him, and put the groceries away.

Credentials and recognition
Questions Dix Hills families ask
Which Town of Huntington senior programs can Dix Hills residents use?
Dix Hills is in the Town, so its residents can use the Senior Division's programs: the Senior Center on Park Avenue, nine senior clubs for people 60 and older, Home Delivered Meals for residents over 60 who can't provide for their own nutritional needs, and a Home Maintenance/Repair Program. Suffolk County says participants in each town's Residential Repair program pay for materials. Check current schedules with the Town.
Can the library bring books to my mother in Dix Hills?
Yes, if she can't visit in person because of a permanent or temporary condition. The Half Hollow Hills Community Library's Outreach Delivery Service brings items free to district residents, in audio, large print or standard print. A companion can help with the application and be home when the delivery arrives.
Will Town transportation take my father outside the Town of Huntington?
Generally not. HART, the Town's bus system, operates solely within the Town of Huntington, and its paratransit needs prior registration and enrollment, with reduced priority for non-disabled seniors who can't drive. The Suffolk County Office for the Aging adds that town senior vehicles in general don't cross town lines and that medical appointments have priority. A companion can drive wherever he needs to go and stay through the visit.
How do families pay for companion care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home.
