Care options in Cold Spring Harbor
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
The Town of Huntington's senior programs, and the days around them
Cold Spring Harbor families draw on the Town of Huntington's Senior Division. The John J. Flanagan Senior Center at 423 Park Avenue is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, and the Town runs senior clubs in several locations. Senior lunches are open to Suffolk County residents 60 and older, and in season the Senior Beach House on Little Neck Road in Centerport looks out over Centerport Bay.
A companion can take your mother to the club or the lunch and bring her home, stay for the afternoon at the Beach House in season, and then be there for the rest of the week: dinner, an evening at home, errands on the days the Senior Center is closed.
HART buses and paratransit, with company along the way
HART is the Town of Huntington's own bus system, and riders 60 and older pay 75 cents a ride. HART paratransit serves Town residents who are 60 or over and unable to provide their own transportation. It is a curb-to-curb ride for any kind of trip, medical, social or personal business, and it is requested up to 14 days ahead and no later than the day before. Request lines are open Monday to Saturday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
HART lets a rider travel with a companion, who pays the same fare, so ask HART how that works for your mother. A companion can also drive her, keep her company on the way and wait through the visit, and that helps most when a trip comes up the same day or hasn't been booked yet.

Yes. Cold Spring Harbor Library at 95 Harbor Rd has a homebound delivery service for library materials, and the library asks you to call for details. A companion can make that call with him, pick up and return books if he'd rather go in, and read the newspaper aloud over breakfast.
How do families pay for companion care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home.
