Care options in Oyster Bay Cove
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
A senior center in Oyster Bay, and a bus to it
The Life Enrichment Center at 45 East Main Street in Oyster Bay lists Oyster Bay Cove in the area it serves. It's open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, with lunch, exercise and a weekly shoppers bus. The Village itself runs the police, the building department, taxes and trash, rather than a senior center.
The center's round-trip bus runs on weekdays with door-to-door service, and seats are reserved at least a day ahead. A companion can drive on the days the bus doesn't suit, sit with your mother at lunch if she'd like company, and be with her after the center closes at 4:30 and at weekends. The Village also lists Planting Fields Arboretum and Sagamore Hill National Historic Site among the places nearby, and either makes a good afternoon out.
Private roads, trash days and winter
Most roads in Oyster Bay Cove are private. The Village maintains four of them, Nassau County looks after Berry Hill Road and Cove Road, and all the rest are maintained and snow plowed by their owners or road associations. Garbage is picked up twice a week, on a Monday and Thursday or a Tuesday and Friday schedule depending on the street, and recycling is picked up on Wednesdays.
A companion can take the bins to the road on collection days and be at the house when a delivery is expected. With overnight or live-in care, someone is already there when the weather turns and the driveway needs attention first thing in the morning.
