Care options in Northport
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
A library with two buildings and a pass desk
The Northport-East Northport Public Library has two buildings: the Northport Building at 151 Laurel Avenue and the East Northport Building at 185 Larkfield Road. An adult library card in good standing allows a Museum Pass reservation, and pickup and return passes go through the Northport building Circulation Desk, where a pass is held for three days. Discount attraction tickets are available at the Circulation Desk in either building.
A companion can drive your father to Laurel Avenue to browse, pick up a museum pass for an outing, and go along on the day. Then there's everything around it: breakfast, dinner, the evenings and the weekends.
Downtown on the harbor, and books at home
The Village of Northport is a waterfront community on the eastern side of Northport Harbor, and the only incorporated village in the Town of Huntington with a central downtown business district. Village Hall is at 224 Main Street. For anyone who can't get to the library, its Homebound program is free and confidential, and the Outreach Librarians can choose materials based on his interests.
A companion can walk him through downtown for errands and a coffee, help him fill in the homebound application, go through what has arrived, and read to him if his eyes tire.
