Does Endurance Home Care provide home care in Mountain Lakes?
Yes. We help families throughout Mountain Lakes from our Short Hills office, about 24 minutes away. Care can be hourly, awake overnight, live-in or around the clock, and it can be companion care or personal care with hands-on help, including memory support at home. A registered nurse comes to the house first and writes the care plan with you, and we introduce the caregiver before the first visit.
Care options in Mountain Lakes
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
What Mountain Lakes offers older residents
Morris County's directory of senior centers doesn't list one in Mountain Lakes; it lists centers in neighboring Denville and Parsippany. The borough's 55 Plus Committee plans activities for older residents and helps them connect with county, state and national services such as transportation and the Midday Food Program. The Recreation Department also keeps a page for the Lakers 55+ Club, which says the department is looking to re-establish the club and expected a first meeting in Fall 2024, so check with the borough for what's running now.
A caregiver can make the outings your father enjoys part of the week, whether that's a committee event, the library on Elm Road or lunch out, and keep him company at home on the days he stays in.
Rides and meals from Morris County
Much of the practical help here comes through Morris County. MAPS gives curb-to-curb shared rides to residents 60 and over for medical trips, social services and grocery shopping, and Home Delivered Meals brings five meals a week, at no cost with a suggested donation of $2.00 per meal, for county residents who are at least 60 and disabled, homebound, and not always physically able to shop, cook or feed themselves.
A caregiver fills the hours around those services: getting your father ready for a ride and settled when he's home, cooking the meals the delivery doesn't cover, and the errands and appointments that don't fit a shared-ride schedule.

Questions Mountain Lakes families ask
Is there a senior center in Mountain Lakes?
Morris County's directory of senior centers doesn't list one in Mountain Lakes; it lists centers in neighboring Denville and Parsippany. The borough has a 55 Plus Committee that plans activities and points older residents to county, state and national services, and the Recreation Department keeps a Lakers 55+ Club page. Rides and home-delivered meals come from Morris County.
Can my father get library books if he can't get out?
Yes. Libraries by Mail from the Morris County Library is a free delivery service for county residents who can't get to their library because of transportation or health. On better days, a caregiver can take him to Mountain Lakes Public Library at 9 Elm Road.
Can someone help at night so I can sleep?
Yes. An overnight caregiver stays awake through the night hours, so someone is up if your father needs help and the rest of the family can get some rest.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
