Serving Avalon from our Short Hills office
Home care in Avalon
Avalon's senior center sits right beside Borough Hall, with cards at noon and a cooking class on set Mondays. If your mother would like more of that company, a caregiver can get her there and keep the rest of the week running at home. Tell us what a good week looks like, and we'll plan the hours with you.

Does Endurance Home Care provide home care in Avalon?
Yes. We provide home care throughout Avalon from our Short Hills office. Your family can choose hourly visits, awake overnight care, live-in care or care around the clock, as companion care or personal care with hands-on help. A registered nurse comes to the house first to write the care plan with you, and you meet the caregiver before the first visit.
Care options in Avalon
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
The senior center, and county rides on weekdays
The Avalon Senior Center is next to Borough Hall at 3100 Dune Drive. Canasta and pinochle meet there on Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon all year, bingo is held on set Wednesdays at 1:30pm, and a cooking class runs on set Mondays at 1pm. A caregiver can drive your mother over, stay for the game or the class if she likes, and bring her home afterward.
For rides, Cape May County's Fare-Free Transportation serves senior citizens, people with disabilities, veterans and others on a first come, first served basis, Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. The county's service announcement says a reservation can be requested as soon as two days ahead. That leaves evenings, weekends and the errand that comes up tomorrow, and a caregiver can take those on.
Meals, books and staying in touch
Cape May County's Division of Aging & Disability Services runs Mobile Meals (Meals on Wheels), the Jersey Assistance for Community Care-Giving program and Medicare counseling through SHIP. The Avalon Free Public Library at 235 32nd Street is open seven days a week, offers Porch Pick Up for borrowing without going inside, and has one-on-one tech help, with an appointment suggested for bigger device problems.
Avalon asks residents to register a phone number on its emergency telephone call system, and the borough's official alert station is 1630AM. Its emergency website, avalonemergency.org, includes planning information on care of the elderly, disabled and pets. A caregiver fits around all of it, with the company, the cooking and the daily help in between.

Questions Avalon families ask
Where is the Avalon Senior Center, and what goes on there?
It is next to Borough Hall at 3100 Dune Drive. Canasta and pinochle meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon all year, bingo is on set Wednesdays at 1:30pm, and cooking classes are on set Mondays at 1pm. A caregiver can take your parent and bring them home.
Can my mother use Cape May County's Fare-Free Transportation?
The service is open to senior citizens, people with disabilities, veterans and others on a first come, first served basis, Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. Reservations can be requested as soon as two days ahead. For evenings, weekends or a trip that comes up sooner, a caregiver can drive her and stay with her.
How does Avalon reach residents during a storm?
The borough asks residents to register a phone number on its emergency telephone call system, lists 1630AM as its official alert station and posts updates at avalonemergency.org. A caregiver who knows the plan can be with your parent and keep you posted.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
