Home care in Haddonfield
On Wednesdays the Mabel Kay Senior Center in Haddonfield starts with a balance class at 9:15, then coffee at 10 and line dancing at 12:30. If your mother loves that rhythm but the rest of the week at home has gotten harder, some help can carry the parts that have gotten heavy. Tell us what's changed, and we'll plan the hours with you.

Care options in Haddonfield
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
Mabel Kay on Wednesdays, and the rest of the week
The Mabel Kay Senior Center at 24 Walnut Street is run by the borough for Haddonfield residents 55 and older. Wednesday opens with a weekly Balance and Core class from 9:15 to 10am meant to decrease the risk of falls, then Coffee and Schmooze from 10 to noon. On the second and fourth Wednesdays, Something to Chew On serves lunch with a speaker from 12:30 to 2pm. It's free for residents, and the center asks you to reply by Tuesday at noon. Fitness classes are on the upper level, reached by stairs or an elevator, and cost $1 for residents.
A caregiver can help your mother get ready for a Wednesday at Mabel Kay, drive her there and bring her home again. Then the caregiver is with her for the hours the center isn't, with meals, company and the house.
Rides, meals and books from the county
Camden County's senior rides are for residents 60 and older who are ambulatory, can't drive and have no other transportation. Its medical rides go to doctor's appointments only, for low-income residents without adequate support, with appointments between 9:30am and 1:00pm on weekdays. The county's Home Delivered Meals program serves residents who are medically homebound and need nutritional support, and it may ask for confirmation from a healthcare provider.
Haddonfield Public Library partners with Interfaith Caregivers, a volunteer group, to deliver and pick up library materials for eligible borrowers. A caregiver covers what none of these do: an afternoon appointment, staying with your mother through the visit, a ride on the weekend, and the meals and company in between.
