Does Endurance Home Care provide home care in Granby?

Yes. We provide live-in home care throughout Granby from our Stamford office. A caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house, as companion care or personal care with hands-on help, with agreed rest time built in. A registered nurse comes to the house first to write the care plan with you, and you meet the caregiver before the first day.

Care options in Granby

Live-in care, with someone there through the day

In Hartford County our care is live-in. A caregiver lives in the home, keeps the day running and is there when your parent needs a hand.

Live-in care can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. How live-in care works.

The senior van, and the rides around it

Granby's Senior Van gives rides to medical appointments in the local area, for van dues of $10 a year, from September to August. Rides are booked at least two weeks ahead, and the Senior Center follows the school closings, so on a day Granby Public Schools are closed, its activities, events and transportation are cancelled.

A live-in caregiver can take the appointment that comes up on short notice, drive your mother on a snow day, and stay with her through the visit, then see that she's settled at home afterward.

What Granby already brings to the door

Granby Public Library delivers library materials to homebound residents on the last Thursday of the month, up to 10 items at a time, left at the door of the home. Primary caregivers of homebound residents are eligible too. The Senior Center, which shares the municipal complex with Town Hall and the library, runs a volunteer Durable Medical Loaner Closet at Holcomb Farm with canes, walkers, wheelchairs, raised toilet seats and shower chairs.

Granby also has two senior housing complexes, Stony Hill Village and Salmon Brook Elderly Housing. A live-in caregiver adds the company, the meals and the daily help in the weeks between deliveries, whether your father lives in his own house or in an apartment there.

Getting started

How care is arranged in Granby

It starts with a conversation, and nothing begins until you say so.

  1. A conversation

Call or send a request. Tell us who needs help, where they live and what's been getting harder. You don't need the right words.

  2. A nurse visits at home

A registered nurse comes to the house in Granby, gets to know everyone and writes the care plan with you.

  3. You meet the caregiver

We choose a caregiver for the routines and preferences that matter and introduce them before the first visit. If it isn't working, we find someone else.

  4. Updates as you go

Your Care Manager keeps you posted and changes the plan with you when needs change.

Questions Granby families ask

How far ahead do I book the Granby Senior Van?

The town asks you to call at least two weeks in advance to schedule a ride to a medical appointment in the local area. Van dues are $10 a year. For an appointment that comes up sooner, or one outside the van's area, a caregiver can drive your parent and stay for the visit.

Can the Granby library bring books to my mother at home?

Yes. The library's homebound delivery comes on the last Thursday of the month, up to 10 items at a time, left at the door. It is for library materials only, so a caregiver can set them up for her and keep her company between deliveries.

Does the Granby Senior Center lend medical equipment?

Yes. A volunteer-run Durable Medical Loaner Closet at Holcomb Farm lends items such as canes, walkers, wheelchairs, raised toilet seats and shower chairs. A caregiver can help your parent use the equipment safely at home.

How do families pay for home care?

Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
