Care options in Saratoga Springs
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Lunch at the Senior Center, and Thursdays
The Saratoga Senior Center at 290 West Avenue is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm, and it's the Saratoga Springs site for the county's Gather and Dine program. A hot lunch is served at noon for anyone 60 or older, with a reservation made in person or by phone by noon the day before. On Thursdays the Center also offers Regional Food Bank produce for pickup, and it brings Thursday lunches to seniors in need who register.
A companion can drive to the Center and home again, remind your mother to book her lunch the day before, and be there in the evenings and on weekends, when the Center is closed.
Rides, shuttles and meals at the door
The Center's Senior Support Services arrange rides to medical appointments, pharmacies, dentists and more, and volunteers do grocery shopping. A Wednesday shuttle takes residents of area housing sites to Price Chopper. The county's home-delivered meals bring a hot noon meal on weekdays, between 11am and 1pm, to home-bound seniors 60 or older who have difficulty preparing their own meals, and the county asks that someone be home to receive it.
A companion can be there when the meal arrives, drive on the days and to the places the volunteer rides don't cover, and make the evening meal. The Saratoga Springs Public Library's outreach program also brings large print books and audio books to patrons who can't get to the library.
