Serving Rhinebeck from our Stamford office
Companion care in Rhinebeck
Rhinebeck's senior van makes the weekly run to the grocery store, Starr Library and the village shops, and Starr at Home brings books to the door. If your mother wants more company and help around the house than those give her, we'll plan the hours with you.
The first conversation is free, and nothing starts until you say so.

Yes. We provide companion care throughout the Town of Rhinebeck, including the village and Rhinecliff, from our Stamford office. It can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. Care options in Rhinebeck
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
The senior van and the village
The Town of Rhinebeck runs a free senior van for resident seniors, twice a week, to the grocery store, Starr Library and the shops in the Village. Most trips are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Seats are first come, first served, and the Town Clerk's Office at 80 East Market Street takes the reservations. Riders need to be able to step up into the van without help, and the van doesn't make medical trips or individual errands.
A companion can ride along on the van days and drive on the other days: to appointments, the hairdresser, a friend's house or any errand that isn't on the van's route, and stay through the visit.
Lunch in Red Hook, books at the door
Rhinebeck has no Dutchess County Friendship Center of its own. The nearest is at the Red Hook Community Center, 59 Fisk Street, which serves a hot midday meal and programs from 10 to 2, Monday to Friday. Meals need a reservation, with a suggested $5 contribution, and transportation may be available. Starr at Home, from Starr Library, has a volunteer deliver books to Rhinebeck residents and collect them when they're done.
A companion can drive to Red Hook for lunch, make lunch at home on the other days, and sit down with your father and the new books when they arrive.

Credentials and recognition
Questions Rhinebeck families ask
How does the Rhinebeck senior van work?
The Town's van is free for resident seniors and runs twice a week to the grocery store, Starr Library and the shops in the Village, mostly on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Seats are first come, first served and need a reservation through the Town Clerk's Office. Riders must be able to step up into the van without help, and it isn't available for medical or individual needs. A companion can drive to appointments and stay through the visit.
Does Rhinebeck have a senior center?
None of the eight Dutchess County Friendship Centers is in Rhinebeck. The nearest is at the Red Hook Community Center, open Monday to Friday from 10 to 2, with a hot midday meal that needs a reservation. A companion can drive your mother there, stay for lunch and bring her home.
Can my father get library books if he can't get to the library?
Yes, if he lives in Rhinebeck. Starr at Home takes orders by phone or online, a volunteer delivers the books, and the library arranges their pickup and return. A companion can choose the books with him and be there when the volunteer arrives.
How do families pay for companion care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home.
