Care options in Cold Spring
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
A week of programs in Philipstown
The Friendship Center in Philipstown, a Putnam County Office for Senior Resources site at 6 Butterfield Road, is open from 9 to 2 on weekdays and serves a hot lunch, with group fitness, games, arts and crafts and blood pressure checks. The Philipstown Recreation Department adds classes for residents 62 and over at the Community Center on Glenclyffe Drive in Garrison, free to residents: chair stretch and Zumba Gold on Thursday mornings, Fit for Life on Mondays and Golden Barre on Fridays.
A companion can drive to the center or the classes, stay for lunch or the class, and make the other lunches at home. The evenings and weekends, when none of it is open, are covered too.
Rides, and books at the door
Putnam County's medical transportation program sends a volunteer driver in a County car to take residents over 60 who aren't on Medicaid to appointments in Putnam and nearby Dutchess, Westchester and Fairfield counties. It's door to door, it asks for a week's notice, and slots can fill even then. Butterfield Library at 10 Morris Avenue brings books to the door on foot or by Book Bike, but only inside the Village of Cold Spring.
A companion can drive on short notice or on the days between rides, stay with your mother through the appointment, and pick up her books from Morris Avenue if she lives beyond the Village line.

Credentials and recognition
Questions Cold Spring families ask
What does the Friendship Center in Philipstown offer?
It's one of four Putnam County Office for Senior Resources centers, at 6 Butterfield Road in Cold Spring. The centers are open 9 to 2 on weekdays, closed on holidays and in bad weather, and serve a hot lunch with group fitness, games, arts and crafts and blood pressure checks. They also offer rides to and from the center and local shopping trips. Check current hours with the County.
How does Putnam County's medical ride program work?
A volunteer driver collects you at home in a County car, waits during the appointment and brings you back. It's for residents over 60 who aren't on Medicaid and can get into and out of a car without help. The County asks for at least a week's notice, and slots can fill even then. A companion can drive when the appointment comes up sooner and stay through the visit.
Can my mother get library books at home in Cold Spring?
Butterfield Library delivers to patrons inside the Village of Cold Spring, on foot or by Book Bike. It can't deliver outside the Village. A companion can pick up and return her books for her, wherever she lives in Philipstown.
How do families pay for companion care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home.
