Serving New City from our Stamford office
Companion care in New City
New City's senior clubs meet on Mondays and Tuesdays at the Street Community Center on Zukor Road, and the Drop in Lounge opens there Wednesday to Friday. That leaves the mornings, the evenings and Sundays for someone else to fill. We can send a companion for the hours the clubs don't cover.
The first conversation is free, and nothing starts until you say so.

Care options in New City
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Senior clubs and the Street Community Center
Clarkstown's senior clubs are open to residents 55 and over. In New City, New City II meets on Tuesdays and New City III on Mondays, both from 1 to 4pm at the Street Community Center, 31 Zukor Road. The Drop in Lounge there is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 2pm, with refreshments, and stained glass meets on Tuesdays from noon to 2pm. Seniors need a free senior citizen ID card, good for five years, to use the community centers.
A companion can take your mother to the Street Community Center and home again, stay for the afternoon if she'd like company, and be with her in the mornings, the evenings and at weekends.
Mini-Trans, and books that come to the door
Clarkstown's Mini-Trans offers door-to-door rides to the Clarkstown senior clubs, Monday to Friday, and rides to local supermarkets from senior citizen complexes, with carry-in bag service. New City Library, at 220 N. Main Street, has a homebound program too: with a valid library card, two titles at a time are mailed out in a cloth bag, with six weeks to read them before the next two.
A companion can drive to the places and at the times the bus doesn't, stay through the visit, and read the mailed books with your mother or help her send them back.
Getting started
How care is arranged in New City
It starts with a conversation, and nothing begins until you say so.
A conversation
Call or send a request. Tell us who needs help, where they live and what's been getting harder. You don't need the right words.
A nurse visits at home
A registered nurse comes to the house in New City, gets to know everyone and writes the care plan with you.
You meet the caregiver
We choose a caregiver for the routines and preferences that matter and introduce them before the first visit. If it isn't working, we find someone else.
Updates as you go
Your Care Manager keeps you posted and changes the plan with you when needs change.

Credentials and recognition
Questions New City families ask
Who can join a Clarkstown senior club, and where do the New City clubs meet?
Clubs are open to residents of Clarkstown 55 and over. New City II meets on Tuesdays and New City III on Mondays, both from 1 to 4pm at the Street Community Center, 31 Zukor Road, New City. Seniors need a free senior citizen ID card to use the community centers. Check current schedules with the Town.
When does Mini-Trans run, and what does it cost seniors?
Mini-Trans runs five routes through the Town, Monday to Friday from 6:55am to 8:05pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 7:10pm, with no service on Sundays. The senior fare is $0.40. A companion can drive on Sundays and in the evening after the last bus.
What is the File of Life?
It's a Town of Clarkstown program for seniors and residents with health issues: a card with emergency contacts and health information, kept in a bright red magnetic pocket on the outside of the refrigerator so first responders can find it fast. Cards are available at Town Hall, 10 Maple Avenue, New City. A companion in the house can help keep the card where responders will look.
How do families pay for companion care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home.
