Care options in Millbrook
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Three days at the Senior Center, and the rest of the week
Your mother can spend Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm at the Town of Washington Senior Center in the Turletes Building in the Town Park, with a calendar of events on site. The Center is for adults 60 and over. In the village, Lunch at Lyall serves soup, sandwiches and a simple dessert at 30 Maple Avenue at 11:30am on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.
A companion can get your mother there and home again, stay for lunch if she'd like company, and be with her on Mondays, Fridays and weekends, when the Center is closed. In the evenings, a companion can make supper and keep her company through the quiet hours.
Rides, meals and a trip to the library
North East Community Center's Dial-A-Ride serves Millbrook residents and can pick up at home. It goes anywhere in Dutchess County for medical, pharmacy, grocery and laundry trips, to the train, and to medical visits in Sharon, Connecticut. Rides are free, donations are welcome, five days' notice is recommended, and seniors with medical appointments get first priority. The Dutchess County Office for the Aging also delivers hot meals Monday to Friday to eligible homebound adults 60 and over, after a home visit to assess eligibility.
A companion fills in around the ride schedule: a drive on short notice, an errand that can't wait five days, shopping on any day of the week. A companion can be home when the meal arrives and sit down to eat with your father. The Millbrook Library at 3 Friendly Lane lends through Libby, Hoopla and Kanopy, and a companion can set it up on a tablet with him.
