Does Endurance Home Care provide companion care in Skaneateles?

Yes. We provide companion care throughout Skaneateles from our Stamford office. It can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. A registered nurse visits first to plan the care with your family, and you meet your companion before the first visit.

Laker Limo and the days it runs

Laker Limo, a nonprofit founded in 2002, gives seniors and adults with mobility challenges in the Skaneateles school district free rides with trained volunteers, to medical appointments, shopping, banking, hair appointments, social events and other errands. Rides run 8:30 to 5 on weekdays, and each day goes to a set area: Syracuse on Monday and Friday, Auburn on Tuesday, Skaneateles and Auburn on Wednesday, and Syracuse in the morning and Auburn in the afternoon on Thursday. Appointments are booked three business days ahead.

A companion can drive when the appointment lands on the wrong day or comes up sooner than three business days, and stay with your mother through the visit. Banking, the hairdresser and a friend's house fit into the same trip.

Lunch, books and the Community Center

A senior luncheon is held at noon on the first Wednesday of the month at Dobson Fellowship Hall in the First Presbyterian Church, 97 East Genesee Street, for everyone 60 and over. The Skaneateles Library at 49 East Genesee Street is open until 8pm Monday to Thursday and lends ebooks and audiobooks through Libby. Onondaga County's OSCAR service, run by Centro, gives pre-registered residents 60 and over weekday rides with no fare required, booked two business days ahead.

A companion can take your mother to the monthly lunch, and fill the weeks between with meals at home, a drive to the library and company in the evenings.

Getting started

How care is arranged in Skaneateles

It starts with a conversation, and nothing begins until you say so.

  1. A conversation

Call or send a request. Tell us who needs help, where they live and what's been getting harder. You don't need the right words.

  2. A nurse visits at home

A registered nurse comes to the house in Skaneateles, gets to know everyone and writes the care plan with you.

  3. You meet the caregiver

We choose a caregiver for the routines and preferences that matter and introduce them before the first visit. If it isn't working, we find someone else.

  4. Updates as you go

Your Care Manager keeps you posted and changes the plan with you when needs change.

    Questions Skaneateles families ask

    How does Laker Limo work?

Laker Limo gives seniors and adults with mobility challenges who live in the Skaneateles school district free rides with volunteer drivers, weekdays from 8:30 to 5. Each day goes to a set area, Syracuse on Monday and Friday, Auburn on Tuesday, Skaneateles and Auburn on Wednesday, and Syracuse then Auburn on Thursday. Appointments are booked three business days ahead, so same-day and next-day rides aren't possible. A companion can drive on the other days and at short notice.

Is there a senior lunch in Skaneateles?

Yes. The senior luncheon is at noon on the first Wednesday of the month at Dobson Fellowship Hall in the First Presbyterian Church, for everyone 60 and older. It was announced in August 2025, so check the current date with the church or PEACE, Inc. A companion can drive your mother and stay for lunch.

Can my father borrow ebooks and audiobooks from the Skaneateles Library?

Yes. The library at 49 East Genesee Street lends ebooks, audiobooks and magazines through Libby, and it's open until 8pm Monday to Thursday. A companion can help him get started with Libby on a tablet, or bring him in to choose a book.

How do families pay for companion care?

Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home.
