Care options in East Aurora
Companion care, on the schedule you need
In New York we provide companion care only, and it can run by the hour, overnight, live-in or around the clock. That means company, meals, light housekeeping, errands, rides to appointments and regular updates for the family. Tell us what the days and nights are like and we’ll talk through the schedule with you.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Lunch and a day out at the Senior Center
The Town of Aurora Senior Center is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, and its activities are open to anyone over 55. Seniors over 60 and their spouses can have a hot lunch there every weekday at noon, with a place reserved a week ahead. The center is also the Town's emergency shelter, with a generator.
A companion can take your mother to the center and bring her home again, help her remember to reserve her lunches, and be with her in the evenings and at weekends, when the center is closed.
Rides: the Going Places van and Rural Transit
The Going Places van runs Tuesday to Friday for Town of Aurora and Town of Elma residents over 60, with medical trips given priority. Medical appointments can be booked up to two weeks ahead, and groceries, errands and social trips up to one week ahead. The Rural Transit vans run Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4pm, on 48 hours' notice, for up to two rides a week, and they don't run on days the local school is closed for weather.
A companion can drive when you need a ride at short notice, outside those hours, or more often than twice a week, and can stay with your mother through the appointment. Errands fit into the same trip.
