Home care in Lambertville
Lambertville works with Hunterdon County on senior activities, and the county's senior center in Flemington is full of things to do. If your mother or father is happiest at home in the city, a caregiver can make the days between those outings easier and keep them company through the week.

Care options in Lambertville
Help for the days, the nights, or both
Some families need a few hours a week. Others want someone there overnight, or living in. Here's what each option looks like at home.
- Hourly careHelp for the hours that are hardest, from a few mornings a week to full days. Easy to add to as needs change.
- Overnight careA caregiver who stays awake through the night hours, there when someone wakes and ready to help them settle again, so everyone in the house gets some rest.
- Live-in careA caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house. Agreed rest time, including a night's sleep, is part of the arrangement.
- 24-hour careCaregivers work awake shifts, usually two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts, so someone is up and ready to help at any hour of the day or night.
Any of these can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. See how live-in care and 24-hour care differ.
The county senior center, and a city that works with it
Lambertville has a Municipal Coordinator who works closely with the Hunterdon County Division of Senior Services, Disabilities & Veterans Services. The county's Senior Center in nearby Flemington runs a regular schedule of recreation, social events, enrichment courses and bus trips. It offers exercise classes, health and wellness activities, language and art classes, card games and a technology help desk. Membership is open to Hunterdon County residents who are 60 or older and have filled out a membership form.
Getting to Flemington and back is part of the plan. A caregiver can help your mother get ready, drive her and stay for the morning or afternoon, and be at home when she returns to settle her in with a meal and a rest.
The LINK, the volunteers and the days they don't reach
The Hunterdon County LINK serves every county resident, with scheduled routes and demand-response rides. It is a shared ride, so a ride for the next day is reserved by noon on the weekday before, and the county doesn't accept requests made on a Saturday, a Sunday or a county holiday. For specialized medical appointments outside the county, the Volunteer Driver program asks for two weeks' notice, schedules weekday appointments between 9:30am and 2:30pm and charges no fee. Mr. Fix-It sends volunteers to do home repairs for residents 60 and over.
The city's Senior Citizen Emergency Program, funded by the county, helps seniors with emergencies related to housing, medical care and transportation, and Hunterdon Helpline answers at any hour. A caregiver adds the part no schedule can promise: the appointment that came up this morning, a drive when the booking window has passed, and someone to stay with your father through the visit.

Questions Lambertville families ask
Does Lambertville have its own senior center?
Lambertville's senior page works through a Municipal Coordinator and the Hunterdon County Division of Senior Services, and points to the county's Senior Center in Flemington. Membership is open to Hunterdon County residents 60 and older who fill out a membership form. A caregiver can take your parent there and bring them home.
How far ahead do we book a ride on the Hunterdon LINK?
A ride for the next day has to be reserved by noon on the weekday before, and requests made on a Saturday, a Sunday or a county holiday aren't accepted. Because it's a shared ride, timing can shift. When you need a ride on short notice, a caregiver can drive your parent and stay with them.
How do we get to a specialist outside Hunterdon County?
The county's Volunteer Driver program covers specialized medical appointments outside Hunterdon County, with no fee. Ask for at least two weeks' notice, and schedule the appointment between 9:30am and 2:30pm on a weekday. For other times, a caregiver can drive and go in with your parent.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
