Serving Chester from our Stamford office
Home care in Chester
In Chester, volunteer drivers give free rides to the doctor and a hot Meals on Wheels lunch comes out from The Estuary, so a good week for your mother is built from those pieces and the days around them, with a caregiver who lives in the home. Tell us what's changed, and we'll plan the care with you.

Does Endurance Home Care provide home care in Chester?
Yes. We provide live-in home care throughout Chester from our Stamford office. A caregiver lives in the home and helps through the day with meals, routines, company and the house, as companion care or personal care with hands-on help, with agreed rest time built in. A registered nurse comes to the house first to write the care plan with you, and you meet the caregiver before the first day.
Care options in Chester
Live-in care, with someone there through the day
In Middlesex County our care is live-in. A caregiver lives in the home, keeps the day running and is there when your parent needs a hand.
Live-in care can be companion care, which covers company, meals, light housekeeping, errands and rides, or personal care, which adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and moving around safely. How live-in care works.
Free volunteer rides, and Dial-A-Ride for the rest
FISH, Friends In Service Here, is an all-volunteer driving service that gives Chester residents free rides to and from doctors' and dentists' offices and clinics in the area. It runs five days a week, except holidays, from 8am to 5pm, and it is for ambulatory residents who have no other way to get there. Your mother or father calls as soon as the appointment is made, and no later than the morning of the day before, or by noon Friday for an appointment the following Monday. The driver calls no later than the evening before to work out the details.
For other errands, River Valley Transit's Dial-A-Ride serves Chester Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 4:30pm. You book by 4:30pm on the business day before, up to two weeks ahead, and you get a half-hour pickup window. Riders 60 and older can join the senior fare program. A live-in caregiver can go with your mother to the appointment and stay with her through it, drive her on a Saturday, and give the hands-on help when she gets home.
The Estuary, Town Hall and storm planning
The Estuary in Old Saybrook serves as the senior center for the nine-town region that includes Chester, and it delivers Meals on Wheels to people 60 and older. Your father, a family member, his doctor or a visiting nurse can request it, and no medical order is needed. Meals come Monday to Friday, one to five days a week, hot around noontime, with frozen meals for dinners and weekends. For a medical visit the Estuary's own EMOTS service picks up anyone 50 and older at home and brings them back, first come, first served, for a fee. Its own FAQ says it isn't an adult daycare center and that everyone who takes part is fully independent. A live-in caregiver is there for the breakfast, the afternoon and the evening that a noon delivery leaves open.
Chester Social Services at Town Hall, 203 Middlesex Avenue, helps residents reach federal, state and local programs, and it asks residents to make an appointment first. The Office of Emergency Management keeps a voluntary, confidential assistance request form so emergency workers know who may need help, and it has a line for a relative, caregiver or friend as your contact. Chester ALERT is a separate sign-up from the state's CT Alert. A caregiver can help your parent fill out the form and sign up, then be the familiar face who checks in when the weather turns.

Questions Chester families ask
Who can use the FISH volunteer rides in Chester?
FISH serves residents of Chester, Essex, Centerbrook, Ivoryton and Deep River who are ambulatory and have no other way to get to a doctor's or dentist's office. The ride is free and runs five days a week, 8am to 5pm, except holidays. Call as soon as the appointment is made and no later than the morning before, or by noon Friday for a Monday appointment. A caregiver can drive your parent on a Saturday, or go along and stay with them through the visit.
Does Chester have a senior center?
The Estuary, at 220 Main Street in Old Saybrook, is the senior center for the nine-town region that includes Chester. It also delivers Meals on Wheels and offers medical rides for people 50 and older for a fee. It says it isn't an adult daycare center, so a live-in caregiver can be at home around it.
What is the Chester emergency assistance form?
It is a voluntary, confidential form for residents who may need special help in an emergency, such as transportation or equipment that runs on electricity. The town's emergency workers can then contact you. A caregiver can help your parent fill it out and list a family member as the contact.
How do families pay for home care?
Care with Endurance is private pay. If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, we can help with the policy paperwork. Medicare does not pay for ongoing daily help at home.
