The newspaper’s own masthead, supplied by Hartford Business Journal. It issues no honoree badge, and a gold roundel nobody conferred is a forgery however carefully it is drawn.

Hartford Business Journal named Endurance Home Care, a family-founded home care agency headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, a 2026 Connecticut Business Excellence Awards honoree in the Family-Owned Business, 250+ Employees category.

The Connecticut Business Excellence Awards are new. Hartford Business Journal describes 2026 as the inaugural year of the programme, which brought the newspaper’s existing Family Business Awards in as one category alongside for-profit companies, nonprofit organizations and women-owned enterprises. Eighteen organizations were named honorees across the whole programme, and every profile sits on the newspaper’s own site.

Endurance was founded in 2024 by brothers Chris Weldon and Tom Weldon, who are both still working in the business. That is the fact the category turns on: the newspaper placed the company among family-owned businesses of more than 250 employees, and its profile records the founders as the family members employed and the first generation as the one running it.

What the newspaper assessed, and what it did not

It is a business award, judged on how the company is built and run. Nobody from the newspaper reviewed a care plan, visited a client, or assessed a caregiver, and the recognition says nothing about the care any family receives.

  • How the company is built and runWhether any individual care plan is any good
  • Business success, innovation, and service to the community, in the newspaper's own wordsWhether a caregiver turned up, on time, at the right house
  • That the business is family owned, and by whomWhether the family who owns it has ever met your family
  • Headcount, which is what puts Endurance in the 250+ employees bandWhether there are enough caregivers free in your town this week

It is also an honoree listing rather than a victory. Hartford Business Journal names a slate in each category and recognizes winners from those categories at the awards evening. Endurance is on the slate. This site will not print the word winner for it, and will not print a rank nobody awarded.

The programme, and the evening

Hartford Business Journal describes the programme as recognizing organizations from across the state that have distinguished themselves through business success, innovation and service to their communities. Categories split by organization type and then by headcount, in bands of 1 to 50, 51 to 250, and more than 250 employees. The 2026 programme is presented by Beacon Bank.
