Home health aides in Livingston
When bathing, dressing and getting around the house have become hard, a certified home health aide can help at home in Livingston. We arrange it from our Short Hills office next door, by the hour, overnight, living in or around the clock.
Can we get a certified home health aide at home in Livingston?
Yes. New Jersey mandates that all home care workers in the state be certified home health aides, so the caregiver Endurance Home Care sends to a Livingston home is a certified aide. They help with bathing, dressing, toileting and moving safely, along with meals, the house, company and medication reminders. A registered nurse visits first and writes the care plan with your family.
What certification means in New Jersey
New Jersey mandates that all home care workers in the state be certified home health aides. The New Jersey Board of Nursing certifies them after 76 hours of training: 60 hours in the classroom and 16 hours of clinical, hands-on instruction. A certified home health aide works under the supervision of a registered nurse, who writes the care plan the aide follows, and the certification has to be renewed every two years.
So the person helping your father in the shower has been trained for exactly that, and works to a plan a nurse wrote with your family. Our nurse visits at home in Livingston first.

The Senior/Community Center on Hillside Avenue
The Livingston Senior/Community Center at 204 Hillside Avenue is home to the Livingston Health Department and the Recreation & Senior Services Department. State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) counselors hold in-person Medicare counseling sessions there.
Medicare questions are worth taking to them. Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing daily help at home, so it helps to know how an aide is paid for. We don't take Medicare, Medicaid or VA benefits as payment. Families pay privately, or claim the cost back from a long-term care insurance policy.

Riding the senior bus with an aide
Livingston's Senior Transportation Program serves residents 62 and older, and disabled residents 18 and older, on a wheelchair-accessible bus that runs Monday to Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wheelchair passengers need a travel companion or aide, and an aide may ride with a disabled passenger to help with getting on and off.
If your mother uses a wheelchair, an aide on her schedule can ride along, help her on and off, and stay with her through the appointment.
A dementia support group on the third Thursday
Livingston Recreation & Senior Services runs a Dementia Support Group for families and caregivers on the third Thursday of each month at the Senior/Community Center. It's free, and pre-registration is required.
An aide can stay at home with your husband or your mother while you go. We also provide memory support at home in New Jersey, with caregivers trained in managing dementia and Alzheimer's symptoms.
What Essex County offers families
Essex County Senior Services lists a Certified Home Health Aide service: general support from certified, professionally supervised aides for older people at home during illness or severe instability. Its Respite Care Program lets family caregivers take a break, using services that include companion and home health aide care. The county's Aging and Disability Resource Connection is the central source of information and referral on long-term care.
County programs have their own rules, so the Resource Connection is the place to ask what your family qualifies for. If you'd like an aide arranged privately, on the hours you choose, our care team can talk it through.

Questions about home health aides in Livingston
Are your caregivers in Livingston certified home health aides?
Yes. New Jersey mandates that all home care workers in the state be certified home health aides. Certification takes 76 hours of training, 60 in the classroom and 16 hands-on, and is renewed every two years.
Can a home health aide give my father his medications?
Our caregivers give medication reminders. Under New Jersey's Board of Nursing rules, an aide can give a medication only when a registered nurse delegates that specific medication and records it in the plan of care.
Is a home health aide the same as a home health agency?
No. In New Jersey a home health agency is licensed by the Department of Health and must provide, at minimum, nursing, homemaker-home health aide and physical therapy services. Endurance Home Care is a Health Care Service Firm, New Jersey License HP0435100, and our certified aides help with daily life and personal care at home, on the schedule your family chooses.
Can an aide ride the Livingston senior bus with my mother?
Yes. On Livingston's senior bus, an aide may ride with a disabled passenger to help with getting on and off, and wheelchair passengers need a travel companion or aide with them. The bus runs Monday to Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
My mother lives alone in Livingston. What else can we set up?
Livingston's Blue Star Program lets a senior or handicapped person living alone register their information with the Police Department. Alongside it, a few hours of help each week means someone familiar is in the house regularly and can tell you how she's doing.
