VA figures effective December 1, 2025

Veterans Benefits for Home Care

The benefit families ask about by name, with the current numbers and the month they took effect.

  1. The pension

Aid and Attendance is an add-on. A VA pension comes first.

  2. The care need

At least one qualifying requirement, such as needing another person's help with bathing, feeding, and dressing.

  3. The rate

The annual ceiling that applies to the household, printed with the cycle it belongs to.

VA Aid and Attendance is a Veterans Pension add-on for people who get a VA pension and need another person's help with daily activities like bathing, feeding, and dressing, and it is the main veterans benefit families use to pay for home care.

Endurance does not accept Medicare, Medicaid or VA benefits as payment. Care is paid for privately, or reimbursed to the household by a long term care insurance policy. This page is here for information.

The pension is the door. Aid and Attendance is what is written above it.

Eligibility runs through the pension first. Aid and Attendance is not applied for on its own. It is an add-on for people who already receive a VA pension and who meet at least one qualifying care-need requirement. One of those requirements is the one families recognise the moment they read it: needing another person to help perform daily activities like bathing, feeding, and dressing.

The VA decides eligibility, so nothing on this page is a promise that a household will qualify. What a registered Connecticut agency can tell you is what the current rules say, what this year's figures are, and what the benefit tends to fund once it is in place. It is one line in a longer ledger of ways to pay for home care, and for many veteran households it is the largest one.

The figures, and the cycle they belong to

Three numbers do most of the work on this page, and each one belongs to a cycle rather than to a year on a calendar. The two pension rate ceilings took effect with the December 1, 2025 cost of living increase, and both are stated for a veteran with no dependents. The net worth limit is stated for its own window, December 1, 2025 through November 30, 2026.

$29,093Effective December 1, 2025Maximum Annual Pension Rate, veteran with no dependents, qualifying for Aid and Attendance
$21,313Effective December 1, 2025Maximum Annual Pension Rate, veteran with no dependents, qualifying for Housebound benefits
$163,699December 1, 2025 to November 30, 2026Net worth limit to be eligible for Veterans Pension benefits

The gap between the two rate lines is the part families read twice. Housebound and Aid and Attendance are separate determinations carrying separate ceilings, and for a veteran with no dependents the difference between them is $7,780 a year. Which one applies turns on care needs, not on which figure is larger.

These figures change every year, so we date them. If the date above is stale when you read it, call and we will check the current one with you.

Aid and Attendance or Housebound, never both

This is a fork, not a stack. Read it the way a claim is read: start from what daily help actually looks like in the house, then follow that to the rate line it goes with.

Branch A

Aid and Attendance

$29,093

Veteran with no dependents, effective December 1, 2025

Where another person is needed to help with daily activities like bathing, feeding, and dressing.

Branch B

Housebound

$21,313

Veteran with no dependents, effective December 1, 2025

The other determination on the same pension, carrying the lower of the two annual ceilings.

You cannot get Aid and Attendance benefits and Housebound benefits at the same time

If neither branch reads cleanly from where you are sitting, that is ordinary, and it is a short conversation rather than a long one. Bring the award letter and the week you are trying to cover, and talk it through in a free consultation.

  • personal care
  • homemaking
  • companion care
  • transportation
  • medication reminders
  • safety supervision

Putting the benefit against actual hours

Aid and Attendance raises a pension ceiling. It does not purchase a named service, so what it funds in practice is hours, and households generally put it against part of the week and cover the rest directly.

What those hours buy here is daily-living support. Endurance is a Connecticut registered Homemaker Companion Agency, and the service list is personal care, homemaking, companion care, transportation, medication reminders, and safety supervision. Caregivers support, accompany, remind, and supervise. They do not diagnose, treat, or assess anyone.

If you are building a budget, start from the hours a week actually needs rather than from the annual ceiling. The ceiling is a cap on a pension, not an estimate of what a schedule costs, and the two rarely meet in the middle. The Client Support Line is (203) 936-6847, and a person answers it.

If the VA route closes

Not every household clears the pension test, and plenty that do still need a second source to cover the week. Two other lines in the ledger carry more Connecticut families than this one does.

  1. Connecticut's home care program for elders has its own eligibility rules and its own application, separate from anything the VA runs. It is the next page to read when the veterans route closes.

  2. A policy bought years ago may already cover the exact hours you are pricing here. The terms decide, and they differ enough between policies that reading yours beats any general answer, so start with what a long term care policy pays for home care.

Questions families ask

veterans benefits for home care

The main one is VA Aid and Attendance, an add-on for people who get a VA pension and meet at least one care-need requirement, such as needing another person's help with bathing, feeding, or dressing. Effective December 1, 2025, the maximum annual pension rate for a qualifying veteran with no dependents is $29,093 with Aid and Attendance, and the pension net worth limit is $163,699 through November 30, 2026.

Can a veteran get Aid and Attendance and Housebound benefits at the same time?

No. The VA states you cannot get Aid and Attendance benefits and Housebound benefits at the same time. For a veteran with no dependents, Housebound raises the pension cap to $21,313 while Aid and Attendance raises it to $29,093, so which fits turns on your care needs.

What is the VA net worth limit for pension benefits in 2026?

From December 1, 2025 to November 30, 2026, the net worth limit to be eligible for Veterans Pension benefits is $163,699. Aid and Attendance rides on the pension, so the same limit applies when families plan how to fund home care hours.

Bring the award letter. We will read it against the week you are trying to cover.
